Gibson Custom Category Product Specialist Mat Koehler just posted this on his Instagram. New logo, new placement, and new shade of gold for 2019! Cool! :salude

I hope that colour's only on aged guitars or specific models and finishes. There's people who want their R8 or R9 or R0 to look like it did coming out of the factory and yellowed appointments look weird on them. The logo on my '97 R0 was yellowed and matched nicely with the other wear and aging. The switch tip on my '13 R9 is yellowed and just looks wrong to me. Probably would look nice with gold hardware and a gold split diamond/blocks on a Custom.

So....here we go again with another more accurate or closer to the originals. These histories are like iPhones lol! But....I still freakin love em’. I’m curious to see these.

Well for me it starts today.

Historics get X more accurate over Y years. So I'm gonna guess 15 more years for them to reach the apex of historicity as there's only so much accuracy you can add, right?

Let's see here, circa '03 one could get a nice new R series for 2.5k or so? Well that hath doubled in the last 15 years (holy crap it's been 15 years since '03) so I'm looking at an eventual doubling of the current price to about roughly 10k come 2033 for the singularity? That leaves me 180 months to save up, only $55 a month!! The Mrs. doesn't approve of monthly payments on guitfiddles though so it's an uphill battle.

Awe ****, I forgot my daughter will be entering college around then where based on the current trajectory tuition will be 100k a semester? :hee
So much for that idea. :##

That veneer does look nice and old school nonetheless!

The flat top, kinda-pointy "G" bugged me when it was such and easy fix. Next year they can announce the vintage correct tint on the logo.

I don’t care what they improve in the future. They are good enough now in my opinion.

The switch tips were yellow/amber when new in 50's.
Unless you have a strong deep cherry red burst, or strong dark tobacco brown burst, a yellowed clear coat pearl logo is correct and wholly appropriate.

Why the negativity in this thread? :hmm

I'm not looking to buy a CS guitar, but it's nice to keep up with what they're doing, and a new Goldtop shade is interesting I think, since it seems hard to replicate the original colour.

oh I don't know if it's negativity, I think it's more frustration, people are always hoping for bigger and better, more accurate details from the factory, I'm sure if they produced a 99.9% accurate 1959 that probably half the members here would pony up the admission price. Problem was the that the "Sneak Peek" turned out to be a Big Dud, it's basically a non-issue and not exactly an earth-shattering revision. Failure to Launch. Hence the continued frustration ..

I really love my Historic Gold Top and can't even remember which version of "history" it is. haha.

It has buckers (ThroBacks) and a stop bar anywho. So I guess it's kinda weird anyway.

I won't be selling it for a new headstock inlay. :salude

That is an amazing Goldtop!! I'd love the combination of a wraparound and humbuckings. I once saw a photo of limited edition series of a Custom with a wraparound, but have no idea where it came from.

Because it never ends?

Perpetual incremental ‘improvements’ when they could get it right already. 1958 was 60 years ago- and 56-59 won’t ever really change.

Gibson plays a marketing game to keep buyers interested. Your reissue will never be good enough.

It'll be interesting to see the new shade of Gold.........since 2011 there have been 2 or 3 variances from the honey amber and green gold of the '50s.
Or is it just the yellowed logo that the OP is referring to?

Why can’t stick with Amber?

Wouldn’t be great if Gibson accept custom order directly from consumer? I wouldn’t mind pay extra.

You need to go talk to a Gibson dealer and ask. I have seen where people do it. It is wicked expensive and will take 4-6 months. I actually saw a link not to long ago. I asked if they’d build me a CC #6, Beast. I got no reply from Gibson.

Go talk to a dealer and be ready for a pain in the ass and a high price. But, you only live once.

In my opinion, Gibson Custom Shop has already aced the vintage reissue issue. I’ve got two collectors choice LPs (#26 and #43) and a 2013 1958 LP . All three are 500 ft home runs.

From Gibson’s standpoint, I can see why they feel the need to keep moving the ball. It’s called relevance in a very competitive market. Being an iconic brand is really cool until it isn’t. Marshall has it even worse. They are totally boxed in and are quickly moving to imported lower cost amps. How many times can you reinvent a Plexi or a 59 LP that many will say falls short of the original.

But, does it really fall short?
