• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Well folks, if you were one of the spectators on that 1970 Goldtop with the Lindy Fralin P90s installed in it, hate to break it to you, I pulled the trigger on it today after putting it in and taking it out of my reverb cart way too many times. I'm too excited not to post a couple pics of it here. Will update with a nice outdoor shoot as soon as I have it and it's sunny outside!! :jim Took the plunge just in time to get familiar with it and have it ready for the next string of gigs after our bass player was out of town for a few weeks!

No Patina on it unfortunately, but I dig the really fine looking checking! Hoping I like it as much in person, and it plays well.

It's no 50s Gold Top, but God Dammit have I jonesed for an old goldtop with checking for years, and I finally found one that agrees with my wallet. I'm super excited!

I hear ya !

I wanted an early 70's LP GT too and hunted this beauty down last year when it was up for sale locally.

This is a late 1971 model that went straight to my tech for new jumbo Dunlop 6150 frets and a setup. He pulled the mini humbuckers (resting safely in the case) and installed Tone Emporium P90's with 50's style wiring too.

Needed a new bridge as the old one started to collapse and added an aluminum stop tailpiece too.

Added Dunlop Straplocks and a replacement pickguard (original long since lost) as well as a blank TRC to complete the guitar.

This baby just oozes tone for days!

Good to hear your happy news OP.

Fair play to you for buying something of that calibre without playing it or seeing it in person first! :salude

killer looking guitar! disabuse a brother of his ignorance though, what is the story behind those pickup rings, I don't think I've ever seen that before, they look really cool

Mini Humbucker routed, P90s were dropped in. Sometimes there's a little bit of finangling with plates on pups that need to happen in this conversion for aesthetics, by my understanding.

Oh you bet I will! Maybe I'll drop a tone demo in here, we'll see!

And an update on shipping: Fedex sent it clear north past my town to their distribution center about 3 hours north from here (within my state), rather than to the city 40 minutes west of me that's a major hub...... Logistically, it could have easily been here TONIGHT or tomorrow morning, but oh well. I'm still holding out hope for tomorrow, rather than Monday like they estimate.

More to come tomorrow, but oh man, it growls! Here it is through my Marshall half-stack (that I wish left the basement more... 2x12 convenience has been trumping taking that out for years now :( )

I'm in love with this guitar. I'll admit, the bridge pickup, with Tone at 10, is way too sharp. Roll it back to about 7.5 though, WOOH. It sings. Then, middle pickup that with the bridge on about 8.5, or kick to the bridge pickup alone at that. It's amazing.

Let me put it this way. Bridge pickup, with tone up high, on my Marshall, gave me Beano tone.

Neck pickup, with tone rolled all the way back, gave me an amazing "Woman" tone reproduction. I couldn't stop playing Disraeli Gears songs.

Now I just have to dial it in on my gigging amp a little bit. I am so stoked with this guitar.

I can tell you all, I've never spent this much one one thing, and felt so satisfied.

Outside of a car, I actually don't know if I've ever spent this much at one time or not. Worth it. I can't put into words how happy I am with this guitar, outside of the harshness of a bridge-p90, raised a little too high to the strings, on tone-10.
