• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

A great local player here handed me his Xotic strat to play yesterday, the thing had .014-.068 strings on it and mile high action. Holy crap. It took everything I had to play it without sounding like I had just started playing guitar yesterday. :hee

Tuned standard? Wow

It was tuned down a half step, but even so it was pretty difficult to play.

I can see how some people would have trouble bashing around a set of strings in that gauge, I just don’t find that to be the case for myself. My cheap Squire Bullet really does sound better when it’s strung heavy. The only downside is those strings chew up callouses. Still, it’s worth it to me.

I like the tone of a difficult set of 10s, over an easy set of 11s. :jim

I like to be liking DAD 10.5's.

I can play any guitar.

With any strings.

But I'm not Billy Gibbons.

And definitely not SRV.

When I get in front of a crowd.

I'm not thinkin' about my strings.

I'm thinkin' about kung fu.

And how to defend myself.

From drunk stinkin' harp players.

That think I should let them sit in.

Those guys.

LOL, I break .009's pretty quickly. I'd blow through .007s on the first chord.

Though when I sold guitars for a living, I had one customer who had some muscle / nerve issue, I'd special order him .008's a case at a time a couple times a year, plus extra E and B strings.
