• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Finally Pulled the ES Trigger

I've been looking for a 335 for some time and couldn't quiet decide which route to go. Sometimes fate follows you. I just happen to do a quick search over on the Gear Page and this one showed up that morning. It plays like a dream and the neck is just right. Pickups are good and I'll have to play it a bit more before I make judgement. :hmm

A 2017 ES-335 VOS RI58 in a antique natural finish, w/some subtle flame. Wow! They are still kicking out some great guitars!! Enjoy!:dude::jim:dude:

It's been fun thus far. I use to own a '67 335 and never really cared for the tone. This one seems to get that growl and bite I was looking for.:jim

Oh yeah! That is a great guitar right there! :applaude

I was between a '58 RI and a '59 RI and ended up with the '59 (got the better deal on the '59). These are really, really sweet guitars. I doubt I will ever have just one guitar, but if I had to, my '59 RI would be a strong candidate.

Beautiful combo of grain and flame.
Small detail, but is it a 2017, or a 2016 (model) made in 2017? The model number will clarify that.

No reason to be a concern, just a matter of accuracy in the description. Would you post what the model number the tag says?

The model number is: ES58168NNH1:hank This seems to be consistent with other RI58's issued in '16. Could very well be a '16 modeled '58, not sure if they produced these in '17? This one may have been produced at the very end of '16 and hit the shipments in '17? Inspection tag dates the guitar 2/13/17. I like the feel of this guitar more everyday. For now, its a keeper!:jim

I have a Blonde '58 from '16. Being a Fender player for 50 years (didn't have a humbucker guitar) I thought a ES guitar would be a good fit. I never thought it would become the standard I judge my other guitars. I've played it so much I had the frets dressed recently. What a great instrument.

Yes, a 16 model. That's the 16 after the 58 in the model number. The 58 says it is a 58 reissue, the 16 is the model year. Being "inspected in 2017", it is almost certainly made in 2017. The date made is usually in the s/n, but it may not be with the 58 reissue. Not at all unusual for a 2016 model to be made in 2017. I have ones made and dated like that. Like cars (for example) the model year can be somewhat before or after the model year.
Accurately put, it is a 2016.
Gibson really knocked it out out of the part with recent years Memphis guitars, in paricular 2016s and more particular the reissues. Of happy coincidence, the CME Memphis blowouts were almost entirely 2016s, and more that just allowing me to get one, I ended up taking advantage of "great Gibsons at insane prices", and bought a bunch.
No regrets at all, and you now can see for yourself what the fuss was/is all about!

Talking about numbers. The '58 ES335 run from '16, where did the serial numbers start? Mine is A07875 a ES335TDN. What's the Sunburst to Natural ratio? Are these still in production?

1958 totals: http://www.es-335.net/shipping.html

The serial numbers are not consecutive for any model. Most ESs have longer serial numbers that identify the day and the year. But some of the reissues have 5 digit numbers with or without an A prefix. Unfortunately, there is no date coding in those serial numbers. And consecutive numbers were not used for particular models, even when they only made 50 of a model. Wth some limited run models, Gibson will say how many were made. Otherwise they are pretty tight lipped about the numbers made.
It can be hard to track what models Gibson makes, because throughout any given year, Gibson can make special orders for the big dealers like GC/MF Sweetwater, and Japan, etc., and those models are never on the Gibson website. However, since 2016, Gison did make a 1958 ES-335 Premiere Limited Run in 2018.
