• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

(Six-string, pre-decal) PAFs didn’t first ship until February 18, 1957 - not earlier

I know this is the vintage Les Paul section here, but I still think this is the proper place to post this.

Here (link below) is a little YouTube video I put together, where I walk through the timeline of the earliest (pre-decal, six-string PAFs).

So many books and websites are just flat-out wrong, or they are mixing up different concepts.

Bottom line is that the six-string Gibson humbuckers that we know and love today did not ship on *any* guitar - not even any console/lap/pedal steel Gibson - until February 18, 1957. This was the start of the “PAF era.”
