Was a Gold Top available as a finish in 1960?

Does anyone know what factory finishes were offered in 1960 on a Les Paul Standard? I know cherry and dark burst were.

Was a Gold Top, available as a finish in 1960? Pelham blue? TV White?

Black was also used.
I have never seen or even heard of a 60 Standard in any other color from the factory.

And, as far as I know there was only one 1959 Goldtop. :)

Do you know the story behind these? Were they special orders, or tops that were off-center, and/or the factory thought wouldn't look good under a 'Burst finish?

Very unlikely. I've never seen or heard of one since I first saw used '50s Les Pauls in mom & pop guitar stores in 1969.

The one 60 Black Standard I know of is known as The BlackBurst and the black was painted over cherry sunburst to fill a special order.

My own 59 black Standard was painted black to cover a flaw.

Have you posted pictures of that Tom? I don't recall seeing it... :hmm

I didn't know you had a 59 black standard. How do you know about the flaw? Is is a mineral streak or something?

Please do post pics Tom!

Seriously? I've had this guitar since the 90's and have posted threads and numerous photos of it.
The flaw was a small piece of maple breaking off when they routed the bridge pickup.
Scott, I know you have seen it. I guess you just forgot.

Here are three photos of it:

No way I was going to hide that flame by "restoring" it back to black. :ganz

Ugh - I thought we were talking about a "currently black" guitar. Yes - i've seen that one. Thanks for clarifying.

Your black '55 is original, too; Correct?

Duh, so its not black anymore

It had an old, natural refinish when I got it, 25 years ago.
I could never cover that original 59 top in black.
Besides, it was supposed to be sunburst.

But, it was a factory black Standard from 1959. :ganz

Yes, to the best of my knowledge, along with a lot of other guys who dissected it at Texas shows years ago.
BUT … it has no serial number and not Les Paul Model silk screen. :wah

But a few black finished "Standard" models from the 50s are out there.

I guess as a special order, you could get gold? Did Gibson do repair/repaint of Gold after mid-'58 on guitars that were originally gold, such as the ES-295 as well as Les Pauls?
