• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

whats on the speakers T1871 FK16

FK16 = 16th June 1977

That is only the speaker date code, not the amp manufacture date. Speakers were used as parts just like everything else, and would likely have a certain shelf life at the factory.

I've worked on Vox amps for the last 25+ years, helped my friend Jim Elyea with his 864 page book: Vox amps-The JMI Years and I've been inside probably about 500 original Vox/JMI amps as well as the Vox Sound/VSL, Thomas Organ stuff and the CBS Arbiter as well as the Rose Morris era stuff. I also build/sell original style add-on Top Boost Units. Some of the amps you can tell when they were made from the date codes on the signal path caps(Iskra's and Wima Tropyfol). When it gets to this era it's best to go by the Celestion codes as parts used were all over the place, but if they used the "mustard" caps made by Iskra, then you can use those codes to get a fairly close date. JMI basically stopped using Wima's by 1967/68. On AC30's, JMI started with serial #4000, but with these VSL Amps, I really don't know what they started with or stopped with. JMI did make in the range of around 20,000+ AC30's. Be nice to see a gut shot of the parts if possible.
Cheers!
