• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Interesting bit of information about 76 Explorers on The Edge's rig rundown.

I've never heard about neck sizes on these being tied to a particular period or month of construction, but then again I think most people have never owned 11 of these..

Slightly past the 9 minute mark, his tech claims that there were two rounds of 76: january to april has a smaller neck, april to december are bigger, and you can tell by serial number. Cool I guess?

I just sat through the whole clip. To anyone else who happens up this, do yourself a favour: set aside an hour and watch it. It is awesome!

Agreed, I'm not a huge U2 fan but it was very interesting and detailed.

Entertaining maybe, but the january to april etc on neck shapes is total BS. The pot numbers on these guitars refute this (the earliest pot code on practically all '76 LEs is 7615, often combined with a 7621 pot), and the (prestamped) decal serial numbers applied in 1976 were not always used in consecutive order. They likely grabbed a decal from a box and put it on.
