1979 LES PAUL HOST NIGHT 1ST PRIZE GUITAR

Hey everyone. I found an intriguing original 1979 Les Paul with a gold-plated metal medallion reading :

" N.S.M.A.'79 1st PRIZE LES PAUL HOST NIGHT "

on that medallion is replacing the 3positions switch cavity cover. I nevery saw or heard of anything like this, assume N.S.M.A could be the acronym of National Student Music Award but I'm not sure.

Anyone knows what this event was ? Or remember such event taking place ?

Found a linkedin link for Wayne Wesley Johnson former drummer for Les Paul that references the NSMA and that it now has a different name whatever “it” was.
