• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

RIP Danny Kirwan

Rare footage of Danny and Peter playing Oh Well Part 2.

Danny was a magical player, writer and singer. Despite his slight frame he had huge power in his fingers with a distinctive and commanding vibrato. His talent will be sadly missed.

Danny passed away in his sleep from complications of pneumonia which he had been suffering with since earlier this year. Hopefully he will find some peace now.

What happened concerning why Danny and Peter left FM?

Plenty of info out there.

In a 'nutshell' though, Peter left first (mid-1970) due to various personal/health/drug-related and associated factors including loss of interest in the music business. Jeremy Spencer, (a bit later) 'fell foul' of the 'Children of God' sect during a USA tour and left. ... After Bob Welch was brought in, probably because of depression and excessive alcohol-related, Danny Kirwan became isolated from the other band members and on one gig 'snapped' over what seemed a trivial thing, smashing and breaking his Black Beauty Les Paul against a wall. He then watched the band perform without him, criticised the performance and was sacked by Mick Fleetwood that same night.

That is indeed rare footage!

I've seen it said that Peter Green was disappointed that side B, (Part 2) of the "Oh Well" single was never performed in it's entirety on stage. ... Although to now see that short Part 2 part of the 'Oh Well' side 1 single, great nonetheless ... :)

AFAIK, Danny is would have been playing a Ramirez that Peter owned at the time.
