• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Headstock Buzz

Hi!

Just a quick question. I have a 2008 Les Paul Special (which is awesome btw!), however the headstock seems to buzz a bit when playing without being plugged into an amp. When it's plugged in, it's not noticable, however I often play without an amp to avoid annoying the neighbours. Could it be a loose machine head, or something like that?

Thanks!

Check the tuner buttons. I had a loose one on my R9 that did the same thing. I used a few drops of CA glue to fix it.

Also check the truss rod nut and cover screws. I have seen them come from the factory so loose they buzz (both the screws on the TR cover and the TR nut but also a poorly cut nut as in string nut).
