I reflexively threw brass thumbwheels on it, and then, forgetting what I had done, started falling out of love with it, and wondering why I was losing sustain. I went back to the stock wheels and all was better -tone, sustain, love it again. Like a good strat, don't think there's any sure thing upgrade to a great sounding ES-335. The MHS buckers are a huge surprise - I really like them in this guitar - remind me of the PAFs in my old ES-355, and they're keeping some nice sets in the drawer. This one is staying stock.
Very nice to know. I have been really enjoying the MHS buckers in my ES LP. I haven't played real PAF's but I know when I like a good tone.
I have a '59 335 RI on the way and I am really looking forward to playing.
