• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

where do all those PAFs come from...

Today pickups are made to be fit in a certain position ie. neck. Was that common in the fifties? :hmm

Similar story, I was in a well known LA vintage guitar shop off of Hollywood Blvd. c.1983... a guy walked in with an early Les Paul SG Custom which was bought by the store and quickly stripped of it's PAF's. :dang

Unfortunately these ones suffer a similar fate as the ES 175s

No, it wasn't as far as we know. They made a bunch of pickups, put them in boxes, and grabbed 2 or 3 for whatever they were wiring up.

The only caveat would be if they 'wasted' the wire they cut off of the ones in the bridge position, or wired up shorter-lead versions.
