• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

How did this thread go from an endorsement deal going bad for this guy to whining about Gibson's costing too much?:hmm

Gibson is treating these guys poorly because they ain't selling guitars...............Slash seems to keep moving refrigerators and sell'n them TVs.....

The Hinds Epi. V sold like hotcakes, they kept it going for a second year it moved so well. Mine was on backorder for a while when the first run completely sold out in just a couple months.

They sold all the B.K. Gibson guitars in those two runs. I don't know that sales is a problem.

I saw no hotcake sales of these.

The Heavy Metal market is a small niche at best. Few Venues and fewer Radio markets, units shipped or downloaded, however well received by a loyal fans and followers, represent a small fraction of the market. From what I've seen, the genra is further fractured by fanatical followers of one or a few bands only, loudly and loyally but not genra supporting.

There may be small pockets of geographical strong markets for this but that doesn't equate into strong overall guitar sales for Signature Mastodon Models. I cannot believe these were big sellers for Gibson. I doubt they'll loose anything over this whining primadonna's exit. I'm sure ESP will move a bunch of Korean and China made Mastodon Gibson wannabee models, briefly, like all the other flavour of the year Metal Bands.

Gibson has made some bad moves and dumbass decisions no doubt, but the elephant in the room ain't no Mastodon.

The Epiphone page for the V guitar had several comments complaining on them being hard to find, and a few boards were talking about them being tougher to get. It was the longest wait for a production line guitar from an authorized dealer I have had. They sold without cases and you could 't find new epi. V cases for about 6 months, I gave up and used something else.

Ibanez, B.C. Rich, ESP, Jackson, Washburn, Dean etc..... would not be around with so many heavy music offerings without the metal market supporting them. Most of the big companies are rolling out new super hot pickups like crazy every year b/c nobody knows or cares who Bieber's or Perry's guitar player is, they want to sound like the modern guitar gods. You'd think investing in a band that is on the lighter side of metal and routinely play Fallon, and Conan to big television audiences would be good business.

I don't particularly think they're the best thing going but the perception that Gibson are fumbling their artists blends right in with what everyone is hearing about HJ and how he runs to show. Relevant artists need these guitars in their hands. Almost none of us would be on here at all unless this was true, '60 would have been the end of the LP.

I do believe you are right that Gibson has had trouble dealing with some of it's artists and markets. Seems they have forever. In the 70's I had to deal with their "Rock n Roll" specialist Tiny Timbrel, who played on some Elvis movie soundtracks, and was clueless!!!

To be quite honest, i really don't care about Gibson's marketing or who is endorsing their guitars. It means very little to the quality or tone these instruments offer. The old marketing plot that sex sells is still valid and if you could get Katy Perry to run Gibson's ad and marketing department and throw a little TnA in the mix you just might have something. It worked for Aria and Ibenhad in the early days.:laugh2:

Gibson is loosing the next generation bc of the world we live in. Ppl can get almost any guitar they ever wanted for cheap and it can be delivered in 2 days for free. You walk into any guitar store and 90% of the inventory is under $500. People have become conditioned to this and when they see a Gibson marked $3k, they yell: overpriced! They think, how can this be?; I just bought an epiphone for $500 and it looks exactly the same. Then they start comparing and see this $3k guitar has tooling marks and the jack plate is crooked; theirs cost $500 and is flawless. If it’s not an iPhone X, ppl aren’t going to spend more than $1k on it, especially for a guitar. Unfortunately, these are the ppl who make up the majority of the instrument market.

Gibson guitars and especially Les Paul's will always be Moby Dick.

And Henry is Capt. Ahab still chasing the white whale.

The rest of us are simply rowing the boat.

Look at the guitars used by the hot young players that kids people listen to, most are playing PRS, ESP, Schecter, Strandberg, Ibanez, Kiesel...
You have a whole generation of players coming up that probably won't care about Gibsons and Fenders. When I grew up, a real guitar had to say Gibson or Fender on the headstock, not the case anymore. I was at a store recently and picked up a new Schecter with SS frets and good pickups, played unbelieveable for less than a grand. If I was a kid, do I spend a my lawn mowing money on a Schecter (or similar) that sounds and plays great right out of the box, or some chinese Epiphone with shitty pickups and rough frets? Something that Gibson needs to think about if they want to stay relevant.
