Led Zeppelin 1969. I believe it was the first US tour. You could buy the album at the door.

"Led Zeptlin" -- ask for them by name!

I assume that's a different Genesis than the Peter Gabriel-led band, since they didn't hit the states until 1972.

AC/DC & UFO at the Morris Civic Auditorium in South Bend, Indiana on 5/16/1979. Truly memorable!

I bet that was cool. Steve Marriott, to me, was the best rock frontman of that era. Smokin' is a great record too.

My first concert was March of 1984, Motley Crue and Ozzy.

    Pat,

Seeing Marriot singing live was almost a religious experience. Besides his stage presence, and he was an itty bitty dude, his voice and control of it was unreal. I saw Pie on their next tour (Eat It) through Houston (12/3/73) and never again.

Mid '74, I heard another voice/band that caught my attention. Some weird looking guy from Canada with a super high range, a guitarist that played really cool licks. and a drummer that was unworldly. My musical tastes took a definite turn and it wouldn't be long before Pie hung it up and Rush became the band I tried to see every time they hit town.

Chuck Berry, on his "they let me out of jail" tour in January 1964.

Baggy 50's suit and duck walking like crazy with his cherry 345. Just brilliant.

The Moody Blues had been way down the bill, but they had a Number 1 Record ("Go Now" - the old Bessie Banks number), so they got second on the bill.

Bottom of the bill was the Graham Bond Organisation, with Jack Bruce on bass and Ginger Baker on drums!

This one -- the Beatles at Tad Gormley (City Park) Stadium - New Orleans in 1964.

I was in the 5th grade, and the girl across the street had a birthday party -- two station wagons full of kids and moms. Unforgettable experience now that I look back.

    Re: Your first concert?

I would have loved to have seen some of these bands you guys are posting about

alas, I was born too late...

I think my first concert was one of these:

    Tom Petty at Kingswood/Canada's Wonderland
Triumph's farewell concert, at Kingswood/Canada's Wonderland
Pink Floyd 1987 reunion concert, at CNE in Toronto

I ended up with front row seats to Pink Floyd, after sleeping outside on the street for 3 days in Brampton, outside the Ticketmaster booth. there were a bunch of people there, was a pretty good time, actually :D

The summer afternoon I drove in to get tickets for LZ, Alice Cooper was playing on the Boston Common for a buck. He played the whole "Love It To Death" Album". Mountain with Black Oak Arkansas maybe in December at the Orpheum.

Trying to figure out the exact date..but i was a lil guy still..but will never forget him coming out with the "Hello Darlin...nice to see ya..." and all of these older ladies losing their minds.

Thought I would resurrect a past thread given the fond memories....

Previously I replied that Humble Pie at the Alexandria Roller Rink in 1971 was my first bonafide rock concert....

but I remember now the first real concert was Spirit w/ Randy California and Ed Cassidy, at Fort Hunt High School in 1969!

May 31st 1974, Grand Funk's American Band tour at the Cow Palace SF. It was a crazy night with people throwing beer bottles at the police outside and inside it was full of pot smoke! I was 17!

The year was 1968. With a friend of mine we saw Gary Pucket and Union Gap along with Jim Stafford the opening act. I think I was 14 at the time.

The first (with my sister in law as chaperone :-) ) was the group Chicago on September 24, 1977 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois doing a Special Benefit for the Lincoln Park Zoo.

First on my own was Foghat on the "Live" tour in 1977

8th June 1973 - Newcastle upon Tyne City Hall

David Bowie. My brother got the two of us and a friend tickets for the first show, we sneaked in for the second.

I now cringe at footage from that period and rarely listen to the music but it started me playing guitar so was a good thing overall

The memory of it is now very vague

1 month later Bowie killed Ziggy

Chicken Shack at the Blow Up in Munich, Germany, 1967. Stan had the long guitar cord and paraded around with his sunburst Les Paul. It was quite impressive!

Sorry to make everyone feel old... (but I was born a couple of generations too late and am extremely jealous of all of your first concerts):

BB King, 80th Birthday Tour, April 5, 2005, John Labatt Centre, London, Ontario, Canada. I was 17 years old and my Dad took me as a birthday present. It was a really small intimate venue and a pretty damn good first concert for a millennial... lol

Nothing wrong with that -- I saw him around that time as well at an outdoor concert in Northern California with Etta James and the great Al Green as opening acts. King was definitely slowing down, but I'm really happy to say I got to see him in concert before he dropped. I only wish I had seen him in his prime.
