It all started at the NAMM show in 2003 when Dave & Connie Carpenter from Music Machine had the idea that they would have their customers select the guitar they wanted Gibson Custom to replicate straight from the “Beauty Of The Burst” book and have Tom Murphy age them and they would be built as replicas. They even would have the original serial number on the back of the head stock of the guitar they were replicating. Each guitar would also come with 2 certificates. One certificate was the “Beauty Of The Burst” certificate and the other was a Tom Murphy aged certificate. This guitar is the only guitar ever built by Gibson that has a certificate that states it is a “Beauty Of The Burst” replica.
After the orders were submitted to Gibson Custom and the guitars started shipping to Music Machine in the Summer of 2003 a real buzz started stirring amongst the people who owned the real 59 Les Paul guitars. The guys who owned the real 59 Les Paul’s didn’t think it was right that Gibson Custom was replicating their guitar and they really didn’t like the fact that the original serial number was used on the back of the head stock. These owners got together and threatened a law suit and production was stopped immediately. In total as best we can tell they were only 13 of these 59 Stanley Bursts, 3 Joe Perry’s, and 3 other guitars that were from various pages in the book. It would not be until many years later that Gibson Custom decided to create the Collectors Choice series of guitars and including the owners of those real 59 Les Paul’s and also paying them in the form of a guitar as payment for letting them re-create their guitar.
This guitar is in as new mint condition with all factory hang tags, paper work, Murphy Aged certificate, and the rare “Beauty Of The Burst” certificate. Also included is the factory strap, customer care kit, and the original 50’s style thin Lifton reissue case with pink lining. One of only 13 Stanley Burst "Beauty Of The Burst" replica guitars aged by Tom Murphy and with a rare figured Mahogany back really makes this guitar truly the ultimate replica guitar you can own and it is also signed by Tom Murphy.
