    Oh wow, that was crazy!

I got a delivery of 50 VIPots on Friday and they sold out over night

I'll get the next batch in early/mid June, but made pre-ordering available on my website. If you pre-order your VIPots now, we'll make sure that we'll send out your set first thing ASAP. As always, shipping is free in the US.

Thanks to everyone here for your amazing responses, reviews, and basically for spreading the word. We're a tiny family business and really appreciate this kind of support!

Yep, I woke up to find your subscription email on Saturday morning and scooped a full set of four.

Looking forward to receiving these and warming up the soldering iron.

Oh I keep tabs on the big stuff. I've now spent way too much time looking for those pots, I've decided to just blame it on the toddler

deytookerjaabs, I almost did the same thing -- got them a few weeks back and they disappeared, and were supposed to be in my Les Paul Parts cabinet.

Then, I noticed a little white cloth bag in a corner of the cabinet. Sure enough, there they were. Find that little white cloth bag. Cheers!

    In fact YES.

I got a huge delivery yesterday. Unfortunately, I’m at a conference in CA right now, but will start shipping the preordered pots (long & short shaft) early next week.

    Edit:

Only the short shaft VIPots arrived already. The long shaft version will be shipping to everyone who preordered their set(s) next Tuesday.

On my third VIP set from Rand. As a guy who plugs straight into the amp, these pots might be the most significant improvement Iíve made to my guitar. The pot sweep is what Iíve been looking for for a long time.

And Rand is the man, excellent service.

Rand is a true gentleman. He went way above and beyond to help me with proper instructions on install of these particular pots. I was very impressed with his knowledge and his work. Absolutely stunning work. Canít wait to install these into my #1 historic. Got another set yesterday Iím going to put into a new SG standard.

These are the ones I got for my replicas, they have a very similar taper to old Centralab pots. They also have that cute dimple like some of the 50's pots in the back. Best/cheaper to buy them in bulk, 20 at a time.

Those are the CTS vintage back pots. If you buy the DiMarzio pots, the current version is the same type, except with a better custom taper, and they don't cost much more than the stock CTS, which I don't like the taper of.

The April 2018 edition of The Guitar Magazine has a rather interesting feature called 'The Ultimate Guitar To Les Paul tone'.

They compare hardware, potentiometers, capacitors. The potentiometers tested are two Bourns, two Bareknuckles, an Alpha, standard CTS audio, CTS TVT, and four pots from a '54 Les Paul Goldtop. The taper of the Bareknuckle and the Alpha pots are very close to the original pots.

I would be remiss if I did not mention Marks Guitar Loft and the pre wired harness with CTS 500K Pots with Vintage Bumble Bee caps . This is an awesome harness which I have purchased 2 for a couple of my Les Pauls . These things make a world of difference for tone .

Don, so sorry to have missed your email. It's been a little crazy the last few weeks. Your order didn't ship, yet, as the long shaft pots will arrive next Monday. I'll send you an email in a few minutes.

All pre-orders have been shipped! By now, the lady at the post office knows me by name. She's probably thinking "Not this guy again with his bag full of tiny packages.".

Let me know if there's further interest in the long shaft version of the VIPots, as the first small "test" batch is almost gone (probably 60 pcs left) and I'd have to order a significantly bigger batch next time.

Just installed in the Black Widow. Wraptail + WIZZ vintage wire Humbuckers + VIPots + Luxe Grey Ghosts. After I learn how to put the reins on this thang I'll let you know! The POTS are magical. Tone is actually more usable IMO and the volume is great. Clarity kicked up a couple of dozen notches. AND THE KNOBS FIT MUCH BETTER! I actually had to bend them out just a tad. Which is great! No more cracked knobs! Had one bad pot in 16 but I'm pretty sure it was my heavy handed soldering.

Re: Which new pots most like a vintage centralab?

I just realized that I never followed up on my post from a page or two back.

So I got the VIPots wired up into a harness with some old Sprague Vitamin Q caps. I installed the harness along with a set of Wizz Gregbilly humbuckers into a great old mahogany/brazilian luthier build guitar.

Seriously impressed here. The pots feel like the old Centralabs & they react the same way throughout the sweep.

Definitely the closest thing that I have tried. I would certainly buy more.
We gone get on down now.

The original had waffle backs on it...

Replica long guard just like the original thanks to Dan at Mojoaxe! (though I still have not solved the screw hole)
Why do that?. The guy who sells those said the raised area of the back of the pots was made to facilitate soldering. Removing it just to look vintage just makes them harder to solder to.

You are incorrect. It makes them very easy to solder to. Why do you think Gibson did it back in the day?

I was referring back to post #95 where the guy from the company says that the logo on the back is functional, and makes it easier to solder to the back of the pots.
