• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I just recently visited the Gibson Custom Shop and had the opportunity to talk to Yasuhiko Iwande about bursts. First let me start of by saying thank you Yasuhiko for taking the time out of your day and talking bursts with me. He is a very friendly person and very easy to talk to. My one and only question in the short 10 minutes I was able to chat with him was:

What is your personal favorite burst in your book and why?

He replied that while all the bursts in the book are special and he loves them all the Stanley Burst on page 92 is his all time personal favorite and hence that is why it made it on the front cover of his book. Yasuhiko told me that out of all the bursts he has handled it was the Stanley Burst in his opinion the has the "perfect" balance of figure, weight, tone, and just the most overall most character. I thought this was interesting and just wanted to share.

OK I'll ask the embarrassing question. How do you get to get a tour of the Gibson custom shop? Maybe I don't understand and you work there or do business with them. I was under the impression though that visitors/tours don't happen in Nashville.

Thanks for the interview. Who owns the Stanley burst now by the way? It would be great to see it in action.

I'm pretty sure any participating member of the Les Paul Forum can get a tour of the Custom Shop with some prior notice. If you're heading to Nashville and would like one, let me know.:jim

Also, we've got some exciting plans coming up in the fall that we'll be announcing soon for Forum members only.

This is not embarrassing for me. If a visit is requested and set up in advance they go out of their way to accommodate you and their hospitality is unbelievable. The entire staff is a class A act. However you just cant show up at the door, ring the bell and expect to get it like some have done in the past. But stay tuned because the forum is working on a few things for forum members.

Oooh… I've never visited Gibson, nor Nashville, for that matter.
Sounds like I need to clear some calendar space for this fall.

Who am I kiddin'?! My calendar is so unblemished/unfilled as to be considered N.O.S.!
What I've really got to do is start saving for an epic road trip.
Intrigued...

Many thanks for the info on the Nashville tour philosophy. It is now on my "to do" list! Thanks Charlie and Mike for your clarifications too!:dude:
