    Esseries Any vintage ES-355 love?

Here's a photo of one of my main squeezes, my '63 ES-355TD, factory mono and stop tailpiece, per the Gibson ledgers shipped 11/21/63..it sounds and plays great with that extra bite ebony boards seem to bring! Hope to hear from other 355 fans.

Does your 355 have the classic "Mickey Mouse ears?" For some reason, I can't tell from the picture.

    Killer guitar!
    Does it have:
    1) PAFs or PATNos?
    2) Big neck or thin?
    3) Varitone cut-out?
    4) Original Grovers?

What does the writing/stamp on the orange label say?

Sure I love them! My 1959 (yes, those are poorly touched up Bigsby holes):

    Thanks!
I wonder if it's the extra binding that makes the MM ears hard to see sometimes? Especially up close.

Exactly, visually the binding diminishes the mouse ear look...

not any but much love for vintage ESes. This used to be mine, had to sell it unfortunately, 61 stoptail ES-335, 2 PAFs and shipped one day before my birth in 1961 according to the ledger, Gibson mailed me upon my request. Great service BTW.

I hope to own one again one day. I'd love to have a blonde, but a nice and rich cherry will do the trick as well

'69 Walnut with stop tail piece added. I've owned it since new, put the speed knobs on when I was a kid and can't get 'em off The mini switch in the pick guard is a phase switch.

Oh yeah. This 60 Mono is the one that finally kicked my Burst out the door. The pickups are untouched double whites measuring 8.38k bridge, 8.24k neck.

Are 355s noticeably brighter than rosewood counterparts 335s and 345s? Is here the same analogy than in case of Les Paul Standards vs Customs?
My diagnosis is: Hiwatt and Norlinphilia

My humble opinion, having owned a number of 355 and LP Custom models is the ebony fingerboard does impart more treble and brightness...

Maybe it's the Bigsby or the PAFs or the neck wood, but my 60 355 was not noticeably brighter or more trebly than any of the half dozen reissue and Historic Makeovers ES-335s I've had. In fact, the brightest 3 of the group were all reissue stoptail ES-335s, a 2009 and 2010 being the two brightest. What my 60 had was a much more musical voice and 3D, dynamic tone, and I've since sold all my ES-335s. I think I'd have to compare to a 60 Bigsby'd ES335 though to be sure on all this.

I always wanted a non-varitone 355. My teacher had one.

The Bigsby and Grovers on many 355s do add some weight and sustain. Given my 355 has a factory stop TP and Kluson waffle backs it is lighter (an even 8 lbs) and is a fairly bright guitar but also has great depth and "phatness" as the younguns' might say!

I love the "watermelon" color of this era 355's. (Mine looks too red in this photo!)

Enjoy that with my compliments. 🤠👍

My 1959 with her similarly aged sisters in ESness!

Nope, never had a Varitone ring, no evidence of it on the top. Neck is flatter than the other two, kinda 1960ish, double whites that are strong.
