I think the majority were used on ES-175s and maybe other hollow electrics.
For decades I have heard that the ES-175 was the first guitar to get the humbuckers. I recall a humbuckered ES-175 with a late 56 FON.

How is the height compared to normal rings? Maybe they were sanded for the 175.

Wow, that is a totally different type of ring! The screw mounts aren't funnelled at all, they've got straight walls. Wonder why they changed them so early on?

You really do learn something new round here everyday.

They must have reworked the mold early on where the ring mounting screws are to reduce the amount of plastic there to reduce sink. Areas that have the largest amount of plastic to cool are prone to sink like the middle coil former of a P.A.F. bobbin. They may have tapered the sides for the new screws hole dimensions.
