Jan Akkerman of the Dutch band Focus used to have one. Not sure whether he still owns it. He played it on this concert. Enjoy.

Dont have these 50s Customs in average thicker body? The 55 above sure has much thicker body than later Customs.

I just measured my 55 Custom against a 69, a 75, and a 77 and the body width is 1/16" thicker. The binding is slightly narrower also giving the appearance of a thicker body.

So I worked a deal out with the owner and I took it down from sale. It's totally stock and still retains it's original 'fretless wonder' frets. Bill Puplett has offered to sympathetically refret it for me with small wire but with more height to make it easier to play. Will hopefully get round to it in a few weeks.
    Richard,

She's simply exquisite!!!!! Congrats, HNGD and play her in good health!

I love Akkerman and that is a great concert!

I would love to know what happened to that guitar, I seem to remember hearing him not owning it anymore but I really don't know.

It is an odd duck for sure!

I wonder about the controls...I'd assume three volumes, and then a master volume on the top?

Three volumes and a master tone I'd imagine, like an ES-5.

    my feelings exactly

I'd love to have a go on that Custom (or in fact a 50s ES-5), but it will probably never happen!

A bit off topic (apologies Zhivago), but if you use FireFox (and I think Google Chrome, might be others too?) as your Browser and you're interested, here's an "Add On" Theme for a "Black Beauty":

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...l-custom-guit/

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.
