Jan Akkerman of the Dutch band Focus used to have one. Not sure whether he still owns it. He played it on this concert. Enjoy.
Dont have these 50s Customs in average thicker body? :hmm The 55 above sure has much thicker body than later Customs.
I just measured my 55 Custom against a 69, a 75, and a 77 and the body width is 1/16" thicker. The binding is slightly narrower also giving the appearance of a thicker body.

This all original 55 came in to me on consignment a few weeks ago. I had it advertised in the Dealers Classifieds and I tried to ignore it and stay away but I made the fatal mistake of taking it home with me last week. So I worked a deal out with the owner and I took it down from sale. It's totally stock and still retains it's original 'fretless wonder' frets. Bill Puplett has offered to sympathetically refret it for me with small wire but with more height to make it easier to play. Will hopefully get round to it in a few weeks.

This Thread just gets better and better!!!!! Thanks for compiling/posting all the great pictures!!!!!
I love Akkerman and that is a great concert!
I would love to know what happened to that guitar, I seem to remember hearing him not owning it anymore but I really don't know.

I always think Boogie Nights when i see this..
COULD that be one of the '71/'72 54 RI's?:hmm
Judging by the last inlay, I'd say no.
