• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

How about a little vintage Fender love?

Me too! '58s are my favorite year for maple necks. That shade of 'burst is unique. Almost orange instead of red.

Dig the three tone, though many 58's had excessive lacquer on the boards. Guess Fender was getting complaints about the 54's and 55's wearing through. Also, the 58's had flatter necks that some dislike, mine was re-fretted by Joe Glaser with frets he put on Vince Gil's BG Teles...went from good to great instrument.

Finish-wise the 58's are cool, but the best players IMHO have been 56's with deep V necks, bakelite PU covers in alder versus ash. Played a bunch, but never been able to acquire one...three I wanted, slow on the draw and lost 'em.

This to me is the coolest custom color Jaguar:

It is believed to be owned by the Hard Rock Cafe now.

Here is one I used to own:

It is the only vintage guitar in the pic. All of the others are various Fender Custom shops - none of which do I own any longer - I thinned the heard to buy my real '60 (here she is crawling out of bed - Guitar Porn!):

What colour is that? Lake Placid Blue? Reminds me of this Sherwood Green Jag.

Yep, it's a '66 Sherwood Green with a matching headstock and bound dot-neck. super rare. Johnny Marr actually recorded some tracks with John on John's release "The Empyrean". Also, JF sites Johnny (Marr) as a major influence.

Actually John's Jaguar was an old lake placid blue, it looks greenish, due to the lacquer getting yellow with age.

I believe that guitar doesn't exist any more, as it was inside John's house went it burnt several years ago.

Still think it is LPB? :)

Offsetguitars has a thread on the topic. There is evidence it is in the possession of Hard Rock Cafe. It is not really known (publicly at least) what guitars John lost in the house fire.

I've seen LPB finishes fade to look like SGM finishes. The only way to tell for sure is to see under the parts.

Joe B. asked me to post these for him. This first pic is the guitars that he and Kirk Fletcher were jamming on in preparation for his Red Rocks concert, and the 2nd one is his original black maple neck, next to Clapton's original Blackie!:dude:

Hi all,

My first post here. I`m mainly a Fender player, so thanks to the LPF for opening up the Fender section. I see lots of great guitars in this thread. Wow!

I want to share a couple pics of my '55 Strat. I bought her from the family of the owner who acquired her in 1960. I was blown away when I first saw the grain pattern. Sort of a tiger striped effect. It`s been nice being her caretaker. She`s a good one. :peace2
