The '58 that Eliot has is priced at $185k and has a bit more curl in the top than this '59. But it looks like this '59 is really clean!
Sorry i thought he had 2 1958's see now the plaintop is a 59.Below the 1958 .Rumble Seat.Looks a lot like my refin IMO.

Saw this when surfing, weather sucks so no beach today, on Gbase.

$185k for a nice looking 1958.

Anyone know anything about it?

Here's my question, being ignorant of the way these things get priced, so please just help me try to understand. I'm not trying to stir up shit. (Wanted to point that out, because sometimes when asking questions in here, people think you're stirring up shit. LOL.)

Extremely mint plain top '59, with maybe fake case candy, going for almost 240k.

Flamey '58 with good color, and some play wear, a wood crack under the volume pot, going for 185k.

Is the correct conclusion to draw from this that condition trumps flame? Or that '59 trumps '58 on price? I didn't really understand this one. Were there issues with the '58 not mentioned that cause this 55k price difference?

JJ...first of all, you're assuming that the 59 sold for the asking price of 238k. It may or may not have. My guess is that it sold for more than 200k but less than the full asking price.

Let's assume for argument's sake that it sold for 210k. People will pay a premium for a 59 over a 58. A wood crack on the face of the 58 is not insignificant. Also, my guess is that photo pulled all the flame out of that thing that it could possibly give us. With all of those factors considered. It all makes sense.:jim

And a wonderful Trini Lopez (to me), but that doesn't belong here :peace2
Doc if you like Trini's Gil still has 3-4 put away when he comes off vacation try him if interested. He even had one real early one left with all nickle parts ,big neck and all 1964 appointments.Great guitars the early ones in particular. I like mine as much or more then:hank my 335 from the same era.

I had a Trini for a while. It's too bad they never made them in stop tail models.

Mike, too late, I already snatched the one at RSM. It's a wonderful guitar, super clean! But again, it's not a Les Paul and therefore feels kind of funny here :wah
