She has to give me an injection in my belly everyday. I already have the BBB's, and that is with love. She isn't gonna be happy with me and I'm dreading that next shot. I do smell like an Irish Spring though.

    Al.....

The reprise in those lyrics quoted in your signature line (Rory), is "walk on thin ice....." Don't be doing that stuff for right now; just do what they tell you to do, man!

    Very best,
Kim, believe me I learned my lesson!!! Such a dumb thing to do. All kidding aside it was stupid of me and I should just live with the funk, but I am an idiot. I learned though, it really hurt something fierce and still is quite painful. My wife was livid!!!

As my old man used to say " sind schon viele erfroren aber es ist noch keiner erstunken"
(really can't be translated properly but it means something like "many men have perished from freezing to death but nobody has ever died from stinking to death")

Re: The Big Al Good Mojo thread

Got my stitches out today. Looking good and the Doc's expressed some surprize at how fast I am healing. NO MORE BELLY SHOTS!!!! Man that daily ritual need not reappear. Fellas and Stock Hippy, my big belly is grape colored with bruises from those injections. I have a real JELLY BELLY now! Still can't use my arm. Hurts like hell, but it easing off and I can tolerate pain easy enough, it is those noises, pain noises, I can't seem to prevent that are killin me with embarrassment. OOoof! Yikes!!Grunts, groans and moans followed by rapid panting breaths as I ride the pain spike down. Shit I sound like the soundtrack to a bad S&M porno. Good news is that the Radiation treatments should help reduce a lot of the pain. Apparently it should kill the Cancer, what's left of my bone and the nerves. I saw the Xray of my truss rod it was pretty cool. Maybe I can have it posted. Hey post pics of your shoulder breakers. I've got a few that I may never play standing up again, but I can play seated. So show me some SIT & PLAY Les Pauls.

Great news with your progress Big Al! Lots of bullet biting, no doubt.

OK, it's not a Les Paul - same stable perhaps - but definitely a SIT & PLAY, with Mel Bay there to help, should you get 'slightly' confused.

    Best I could do .....

How cool!!!! I scored a very early Emmons pedal steel. Unbelieveable solid birdseye maple. Looks like a Bigsby. That is a very cool Console! I play a lot of slide and have a cool Supro 6 string steel with legs. Can't play well yet but it is on the to do list. Been listening to lot's of Slack Key stuff and I know the Campbell Brothers. Lots of inspiration there.

This is infectious Al and it's getting to me big time...........I dreamt last night that you were playing around with an electrified fret board, I was there, and we were discussing the pros and cons of how you were going to use it and how it's going to sound etc.............a little current if I do say so

mbowen, those are killer! My kinda set. What is your preferred flavor of ampage? You know I have owned many Strats of all colors, but it is the classic burst I still favor. The pics help, I had a very bad night. Woke up screaming in terrible pain. I thought my bone had shattered. Still in pain and return to hospitol tomorrow morning for X rays to see what is going on. I can't seem to catch a break with this thing. Play some smokey licks for me.

Ahhh, I feel better already. Doc's found no bone damage, and the new truss rods and screws are OK. Most likey some sft tissue damage, and the nerve that is spiraled around my bone is letting me know it ain't happy. Ican deal with it, but not playing is it's own mental hell. If you see Pat ask him about our old pal Jim Branzell. Jim is a fine luthier and does the best refrets, ever!

    Looking good Mike

Cool you got to open for Pat Travers. No doubt you were playing the coolest guitar at that gig.

I too have a weird Pat Travers story. Many years ago I ran into Paul Gilbert when Mr. Big was in town opening for Rush. We ended up going to see Pat Travers at this now defunct club in the middle of nowhere... Anyway, we were the only people in front of the stage headbanging, as everyone else was older and more sedate... I was surprised what a huge Pat Travers fan Paul was --sang along to everything. So we go backstage and Pat's guitar player is pretty freaked out... I mean, he just played a set in a podunk club in front of one of rock's most badass guitar players at that time. He says, "Pat, this is Paul Gilbert, he's that guy who did that Jeff Beck cover I told you about..."

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8UJwYAIb0I

Pat just goes, "Meh, I thought that was Jeff Beck on a good day." Priceless... Pat was pretty surly

Then Pat asked Paul where he was playing, and Paul says, "I'm opening for Rush tomorrow." whereupon Pat Travers' unimpressed response was, "Good gig."

And there was this cougar running around backstage the whole time, all excited and she hands Paul her camera, so Paul ends up taking a picture of me, her and Pat Travers... Hilarious... It's out there somewhere... Good times...

Hey, Big Al... I am genuinely sorry how much BS you're going through. I know I'd go crazy not being able to play --especially if I couldn't play to my expectations...

Here's hoping you'll get a chance to play a few more badass guitar licks on your Pauls soon. Rock on

I figure I will never be able to play at my previous level again. OK, it is what it is, but I hope to be able to play at some level. I am pretty realistic about my abilities and I am a good enough musician that I understand the magic and power of musicality. I can play with and within my limits and though maybe not as ferocious can certainly express myself in a honest and musical way. But not being able to play in any capacity right now is killing my soul.
