• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Great guitars guys. Thanks for posting :2cool

When I first joined the forum I didn't know anything about LP's. I had just bought my first for a gig where a pink superstrat just wasn't going to cut it. It was a 1970 Norlin GT and I didn't know anything about pancake bodies etc, but I really liked it... Anyway, I kept seeing all these threads about how inferior Norlins are etc, which wasn't my experience at all... But, there was this very opinionated guy who would take on the naysayers in a colorful and humorous way and put them in their place. That person was of course Big Al. His posts made a lot of sense to me and were also highly entertaining. It was a blow to the LPF (IMO anyway) when he stopped posting due to illness. Even in his absence, every now and then a new forum member searching the archives, would have pleasure of discovering a Big Al post and bump the thread. I think that's pretty cool. There are lots of guys I enjoy reading on the LPF, but Big Al's passion and style for all things LP is hard to beat.

Big Al's trick-or-treat return on Halloween gave the LPF a much needed shot in the arm (or should that read: A kick in the ass) and I hope it continues. I don't know how much collective good will/karma/prayer helps, but it certainly can't hurt. In any case, I wanted to show my appreciation for Big Al's contributions to the LPF and let him know he's got a ton of guys on his side, pulling for him. Stay positive Big Al :jim

:bigal :bigal :bigal

BTW I posted this in the Sunburst pub so guys can post anything from a Studio to Historic to Vintage and of course Norlins too...

Wow! What nice guitars. It is really cool to see such sweet Customs. I feel better already and am ready for my bone scan in the morning.

Good luck Big Al :dude:

I hope you get some positive news --including the ability to keep playing your guitar through all this. Thanks again :jim

Although we've never met, you are a big reason I lurked here and finally joined when I got my first home computer in '06. I've always enjoyed your no-nonsense commentary and "WTF", "tell it like it be" attitude.

My prayers and thoughts are with you. Here's hoping I'll be able to read your insightful, no-nonsense comments here for years to come. You've touched the lives of many through this forum, and we're all the richer for having known you.

Speedy and thorough recovery. I always appreciate your straight forward right-between-the-eyes style. Let's have many more years of that.

All the best to you Big Al.

I've pared down my collection quite a bit in the last few years. I've very much enjoyed threads on here with you during the last over 10 years!

Here's my only real Les Paul that I have left. 1956 converted by me and a real good luthier that I know:

I know of at least one that you shot at Gibson, right?

Godspeed, Big Al. I've learned so much from you over the years, laughed too.

As far as guitars in tribute, here's Steve Craw's favorite - Steve - anytime you want to use it, just call.

Best,
Rob

Big Al, it's been really great to have you back.

Here's a couple in you honor--sorry, the plastic is all the wrong color on both!

Al, as long as I have been on the LPF, I have enjoyed reading your posts, and when you dropped off of the radar years ago, I just thought you had had enough of some of the silly BS, but hate to hear it was due to health matters. You are obviously strong-willed. I hope that and your passion for all things music pulls you through this hard time. I'll be praying for you bro.

Big Al, another RC stage 4 fighter here. I pray that things turn back around for you.

I've got no Norlins, and I don't have a good pic of my "just a Standard" 2007 Lightburst. Cream-T pickups, Faber bridge and tailpiece hardware. It's all the Les Paul I need. But you might get a kick out of the copper jack plate that my wife made for me after I bitched and moaned about the cheapass plastic parts that break so easily....

Heh, I promise, no eulogies. I'm not writing you off yet... Just keep following Dr. Mrs Big Al's orders

A very special thanks for the kind words, it's very much appreciated. There are a lot of great guys on the LPF and I've learned a ton about LP's in my time here --not to mention the enlightening and entertaining discussions on every topic under the sun... Take care of yourself :dude:
