• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is a LP too small for you?

I'm 5'9". After these many years, when I'm standing, the Les Paul fits my body like no other guitar. Just right.

Too small...not really. I am 6'6" , a 6'8" wingspan and 200 pounds. It can look a tad small. I love my Les Paul's but, I will admit, being tall and thin, my 1961 ES 345 is the most comfortable guitar I have ever played while standing. The large body rides very well against a longer thin frame with long arms for me.

I googled the subject of this thread to find and register regarding the question. Photos and they are beautiful photos, of Les Pauls online are incredibly deceptive. I have been shopping models online for many months, ready to pull the trigger for a purchase. I had every detail, burst, pup, poker-chip toggle switch memorized from dozens of screenshots I made in my studies online. When I saw one today on a wall of instruments, it looked like a toy- the neck was a matchstick in my opinion. The Fenders had much friendlier neck lengths and fret room. I play cello, electric bass professionally and knew the rough dimensions of a LP but this was ridiculous.
So why did the Pauls look so grand in size with Jimmy Page and Slash to name just a few? Extremely creative photography and low angles. Even the posture in which they were being played or cradled added to the illusion. And also many of these guitar gods are around 5’7”. Not all, but many. Low angle camera can make everything appear...larger. If it was a minor issue it wouldn’t have mattered but the photography has been juiced. Not real in online puffs like Musicians Friend etc. etc. Guitar porn is an accurate description.
Thx for posting this thread as I wanted to find if I was the only one thinking this was evident. Yes, I know Leslie West’s first guitar in Mountain was a Les Paul Jr and it sounded incredible. But why does Gary Moore’s LP given to him by Peter Green look so beautifully proportioned when he solos on the videos? Framing, angles, cutting, and his stature.
I simply need more neck and guitar body- real estate. But I admire violinists as well and their camera sensitive PR machines.

If you got a bigger Les Paul, would the neck be proportional, like a buckethead? A big body Les Paul with a short neck would probably end up looking like a "big" 3/4 Junior. Here's a funny photo I found online for size comparison.
1957 Les Paul Junior 3:4 & 1954 Les Paul Junior.jpg 1957 3/4 junior and 1954 junior

Dumbist thing on this thread. Stand a Les Paul up against a Strat or Tele and then repeat this dumb crap. WTF!:bigal

Photographic angles? How about eyes on? The scale length is 3/4 of an inch difference. Neck profiles vary by model, like Fender, btw, thick to thin.

Just dumb ass crap.
