I put some Vintage Haven Tuning Pegs on my 2018 R8. The wife got me a pretty sweet b-day gift this year.

I noticed that my black rings on my `61 Murphy Lab ES-335 (2023) didn't have that "Magic Marker" smell, so I emailed Gibson Customer Service. They said that the black rings are back to being ABS.. WTF!! Why would you go backwards on the rings as those have been a bone of contension for decades. Anyone have the real info on these??
Thanks!

I just discovered Philadelphia Luthier is now selling butyrate rings for 17 bucks! Might be worth looking into.

I bought a set and they are pretty good. Have not yet installed on anything.

Anyone try their vintage correct knobs? They look like they might have that slight dimple in the top like vintage ones. maybe.

I think the new Epiphone probably does for their Riviera's since those use mini's!

I bought a set of those cheap $17 cream butyrate M69's made by Advanced from Philadelphia Lutherie. I realized they looked familiar. I compared them to the M69's on my 2022 R8, and they are exactly the same, even the molding seam is in the same place.

I recently got a set, they do have the top dimple. I haven't compared them to an original, but they do look nice for the dough.

The new cream color ones Philly is stocking are the same as Gibson used Historics in 2022, yes.

...but Gibson, keeping everyone on their toes, changed the rings again. Sometime in late 2023 or 2024.

Would they be a shade or two lighter than a ring on a 2016 Historic? I was going to order them in "Vintage white" but they look too actual white compared to what i see in the BOTB book?
Obviously old Burst's plastics are all different due to darkening/aging over the years but none look actual white to me? They look very light cream and i was hoping Phillys cream ring was that shade?

Gibson has lightened and un-pinked their plastics a handful of times in the last decade. At least twice since 2016, so yes. Even the current Philadelphia Luthier ones will likely be lighter than a 2016 Historic. The last revision (late 2023 or 2024) may have involved new tooling for the molding, as well. Those very recent ones, you can't get outside of Gibson Custom guitars and their aftermarket support, presently.
