Calling all Page 1275 owners.... We have a situation...

How do we restring this big red beast? What Gauge strings are we using for the 12 string and where do we get them?

That's what they didn't tell you when you bought the guitar. The reason that Gibson moved the stop tailpiece closer to the bridge in later models of the EDS-1275 was because of the string manufacturers. They were at least in the past hard to find, I would hope for your sake as well as others with this style of stop tailpiece that they're currently available. You may have to custom order a quantity of sets from your favorite brand maker. It might lower your overall cost over the long run. Good luck and good hunting.

This sounds like a good question for the Gibson Custom Shop forum. Maybe they can give you some leads.

    Nice Score!

I'll bet that D string will go on that post with the unwound part at the very end. Look on the bright side, you won't have to cut it.

You got one? Congratulations! Remember what I said about those D and G strings! I still don't know why Page's doubleneck had the tailpieces so low; I've never seen that on any other 1275...

Re: Calling all Page 1275 owners.... We have a situation...

I have a regular one and I use a .010 D'adderio set for my 12 neck, not a lot of choice and it is all most shops stock, close fit on my USA 1275, However as I typed I looked at my electric sitar with the TP almost to the strap button with in line tunners so it's very long. I have fender bullets on that one, maybe longer to pass thru the block. lower neck I use .009. hope helps

I put a tape measure on my strings that I bought in bulk and they measure 42 1/2 inches from ball to end. How long is it from tailpiece to the farthest D and G pegs?

I think the Ernie Balls may be long enough. They seem to have the perfect gauge.

Thank you. Ya, the D and G strings may give me the most problem... hey we can always have a stop tailpiece installed right behind the bridge!!! J/K!

So far I think there are 3 of us with these Red Devils on this forum.

I was gonna say, worst case scenario if you couldn't find a set you could tie knots in two string sets and you'd be the first on your block to be stylin' and setting a precedent for fingers bleedin' on stage. Who knows Ozzy just might pick you up as an original talent for his guitar act, or better yet Alice Cooper with his stage show "Welcome to My Nightmare", or no I think it was John Lennon "I got blisters on me fingers". Just having a little fun with ya! Congrats with the nice guitar, they don't make em' for lefties so we have to buy ones like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Galveston-PRO-SE...QQcmdZViewItem

I got my version in a brown sunburst for around $ 580.00 w/case aand it's an excellent guitar and an excellent deal.

Nice Frank C, what year? Lefties really get screwed over with the non-offering of some models, your model would be good example. I would normally build my perfect version of a Fender style guitar, but even Warmoth no longer offers the left handed double-neck bodies for lefty project construction. But the models that are offered seem to make up for the ones that aren't.

Re: Calling all Page 1275 owners.... We have a situation...

I've just bought a regular '92 doubleneck on friday, and was wondering what gauge the 12 string neck was. I called the Gibson distributers in the uk (Rosetti) and they couldn't tell me either the gauge or manufacturer. They said they would email Gibson and let me know, so I'll post it when they tell me. I just ordered a set of Ernie Ball 9's for it.

Just re-strung the six string neck last night- what a chore not being able to use a string winder on the three wound strings! it took ages. Not looking forward to the 12 string-neck!!!!

Just out of curiosity, how many of you lucky Page owners will gig the guitar???

I'll tell you this much... I took it to Todd's place and it was a mission. The case is like a wall and top heavy so it must weigh at least 15-20lbs by itself.

StuartC, what was your cost in american $ for the 92' EDS-1275, I'm just curious? I'll need to know this if I ever move to England, and what kind of salary I need to ask for in order to be able to keep buying guitars.

It was £1695 so roughly double it for US$. I think the new ones go for aroung $4600 over here. Although the Gibson List price is about £4000 ($8000 approx)!!!!!

Page played Ernie Balls. I don't think they've changed the length of their strings since the 70's. I have a Danelectro 12 I use them on, but that loads through the body. I'd say buy just one pack of Ernie Balls and see if they work. If nothing else, you're only out a couple of bucks. Sweet guitar by the way. If I could afford it, and needed to play Stairway and The Rain Song live, it would be mine.

Stuart C --- My Gaaawwwd, now you see why we yanks landed on Plymouth Rock, and Plymouth Rock didn't land on us. Although with you guys its the Inland Revenue Service that landed on you folks not to mention the enormous prices of goods. You know that Led Zeppelin's members always departed to the U.S. at the recommendation of their attorney and mgr. whenever they were fixing to be hit by the Inland Revenue Service because apparently your taxation system in the U.K. is much worse in comparison to our taxation system (which still isn't good at all) to keep from incurring exorbitant taxes. You'd have to be independently wealthy to live in the U.K. (and buy guitars there). I visited London back in 78' when I was 18 and it was a very cool place, but before I'd move there I would sure want to be set financially. Anyway, the U.K. rules for it's legendary peoples and guitarists.

You guys got to be kidding right -

    1) Tangerine - sounds great on the 12 string
    2) Over The Hills - equally incredible - both necks workout
    3) When The Levee Breaks - this requires open F tuning - friggin wails with Slide!!!
    4) For Your Life - Presence album - great song - both necks workout
    5) That's The Way - although traditional on 6 string, sounds equally impressive on 12 string - requires open G tuning.

My comment is that why does it have to be a Zep song in the first place? I would be more keen on learning the Zep songs if the guitar were in black.

I don't feel I paid for the name. I just wanted a double neck with great round necks that aren't maple. The construction is completely different between the USA and custom shop models.

No offense to Jimmy Page, but the reason I bought an EDS1275 was because of this man. This individual handles and beats the 1275 beast into submission (is that too over the top... )

Notice the placement of the guitar strap - I am thinking of doing this to my EDS1275

    Medley

    Noonward Race -

    Sister Andrea

Now getting back to the String issue - Does the Ernie Ball Electric 12 String pack work out length wise for the Page 1275???

The biggest difference that I noticed right off the bat is the 3-3.5 pounds LESS the Page 1275 weighs. That goes a long way when holding these guitars for more than 30 minutes. Necks have a totally different feel, more comfortable, more worn in - tuners are double band tulips, different strength Pickups..I can go on and on, there is a difference, and if you are paying $5000 for one, consider yourself lucky to just get one.

The construction of the Page 12/75 is completely different then the reg one

    Mahogany Necks'
    Right Head stock shape
    ABR 1 Bridge
    Vintage Tuners
    correct color and pore filler

It is closer to a 61' era 12/75
