Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

I thought I wanted Cherry burst way back when. Ultimatly, Most iced tea finishes I would see would just floored me. So I bought one. I will buy another burst reissue, and it will definatly be an iced tea. I'm sold on that finish now.

Keep in mind that the Historic "iced-tea" is a different tone then the Gibson USA iced tea finish, mine pictured bellow being a historic.

    verrry nice..

anyone got pics of standards in either color? that's what im going for.

i feel like kind of an idiot

i bought a used honeyburst...didnt really like the color so i sent it back so i could buy an iced tea...but looking back on it right now as i have neither at the moment i wish i wouldve just kept the darned honey burst. it was actually a really nice color looking back on it. just like urs above. almost exactly the same color...it's real nice. but for some reason i was just set on iced tea. and now i don't know which to get. i'm really kicking myself for this one

Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

I loved the honeyburst as soon as I saw one. Iced tea was probably my second choice. I'm not much of a fan of the cherry burst.

Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

yeah i dont really like the cherry it's too red for me. i have a prs in heritage cherry and it's really red. i wanted to deviate away from it a bit.

i just feel like...when i opened up the case for mine..i wasn't like WOW THATS AWESOME. kind of thing like i expected. it was kind of bland at first. but when i looked in different lights it was beautiful. but in the back of my mind i was like iced tea iced tea iced tea. so i sent it back in the hopes of getting iced tea...now im having regrets :( maybe once i see the iced tea again i'll be like oh yeah thats why i sent the other one back

Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

It really depends on the light and the camera. Mine actually looks quite different to the picture, although that pictures is probably the best true to colour I could get. It changes all the time. Sometimes mine can look quite red. Other times it can look quite yellow like a lemon burst (usually in lots of sunlight). Its absolutely stunning I am in love with it if you cant tell.

Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

They do look a little different depending on the light and the angle. Mine is a little lighter in person. I have seen a lot of Ice Tea and HBs lately and they are very close. The Ice tea has a slight faded red on the edges, compared to the honey burst's brown. I also think the HBs are coming from Gibson much ligheter than in the past. The first one I ordered looked like a lemon burst, it was nice but not the color I wanted. I don't think you will go wrong with either color. I am heading down the my dealer tomorrow to look at a new Std in Ice tea.

very strange some honey bursts look like Ice teas and some ice teas look like honeybursts!

Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

from gibson's website, well first iced tea and honeyburst look real similar, on standards...

but then, they have no consistency in the same finish across models:

    STANDARD iced tea

    STANDARD honeyburst

    CLASSIC honeyburst

    CLASSIC ANTIQUE honeyburst

    CLASSIC vintage sunburst

    CLASSIC ANTIQUE vintage sunburst

what gives? what's so hard about having a finish look the same more or less no matter what model you choose? I mean plain vs flame aside affecting how the SAME finish might appear, etc... it's downright confusing to have apparently completely different shades named the same.

Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

Iced Tea is my favorite. This one is not quite so red off camera.

Re: Iced Tea Vs. Honey Burst

    i gotta say...awesome posts guys

all of your guitars are beautiful! congrats

i think that even besides the inconsistency between models there's a slight consistency between each color itself. what i mean is....one iced tea is not going to look exactly like the next. and so on. some honey bursts are gonna look more like iced tea some are gonna be lighter like lemon drop. and i've definitely learned not to necessarily trust the camera. because your guitar isn't going to look exactly like the picture. so...on that note i've decided to go to my local gibson dealer put the iced tea up to the honey burst try em both out and we'll see which comes home with me.

keep the posts comin guys i'd really like to see some more examples

Here's a crude pic of my standards. An '86 cherry sunburst next to my '07 honeyburst. Yup, an evil '07. Hollow as hell and about as far from authentic as possible, while still retaining the name and body shape. Unfortunately, it plays great, sounds great and looks great. It makes being a blasphemer a bit easier.

BTW, please disregard all the crap in the background. It all belongs to the baby and wife.

How true... both can look very similar (or different as this thread has demonstrated.
Here's some example of 3 different honeybursts that all look very different...

Even the honeybursts can look totally different, but I guess it's mostly a matter of light and photography.
I prefer the honeybursts anyway, as the Teas look too yellow for my liking.
These are my two LPs (Pailina and Paulova ), both honeyburst, but notice how different they look.

Thanks Brother!! I was geared towards the HoneyBurst initially, but having seen a dozen HB locally here did not rock my boat at all.......but then suddenly this IT showed up the last minute and rocked me all across the board.Iced Tea flavour hardly comes by here, very scarce or they've been snatched up allready.Sometimes it only takes one,( which in this case ) covered everything.Last time i saw an Iced Tea here locally was about 7 years ago and it was the real deal Authenthic one.But all in all i am happy with this one as it will become a keeper and aged gracefully with the way i play?

Btw!! Before i took a picture of this baby last summer i was looking at different angles from top to bottom, left side to right and i notice how the 3D effect shone with the natural sunlight lighting.I took this up front shot to cover the certain degrees of subtle flame and character it emitted.I quite happy with this one.

    Peace!!

This was my experiment guitar with micro-mesh (stew mac kit) I used the kit to tame the bling a bit. This all started because of a dumb lazy mistake I made. This guitar was left in my garage on frigid winter night. The finish checked on this guitar pretty badly, It was then when I decided to go the extra mile to make it look more natural. All of the aged hardware is a product of RS. I had extra historic PU surrounds and a historic TRC laying around as well. It's still a work in progress, I have RS aged tuners to install as well. I need to figure out a safe way to age the PU pole piece's, any advice on that would be appreciated. Other things to finish are, better pickgaurd color, and a abr-1 bridge conversion. I think after that it will resemble a historic LP. This guitar plays slighty better than my historics, It doesn't sound better, but it does have a better feel. I think because I play it more and have had it longer. I'm hoping after a pickup upgrade it will sound as good as my stock historics. Will see.

Hello, this is my first post. Thanks to the mods for approving my account, I have been lurking for a while but this thread is what made me join. I have since put a pickguard on and I realized recently that I really want 500k pots. The ones that are on the guitar now almost are an on / off at low volume.

I apologize if this isn't an iced tea, I just picked the one I liked the best that played well for me and looked good.
