Since I've been Loving You - Custard Pie Video

Check it out. Both LP's are Historics...the GT is a 2003 and the Burst is an '06 VOS. Woody's playing through an 18w clone, and I'm playing through a JTM 45.

Considering the audio is direct from the video camera, the audio ain't too shabby.

Enjoy and don't mind the boo-boos!

Re: Since I've been Loving You - Custard Pie Video

Okay...now we have something! I am NOt easily impressed. And Zep is almost sacred ground for me when it comes to cover stuff. So many people simply fuck it up. They think they're doing great, and it just sounds like pure shit.

And when I see/hear people do covers, especially of such monumental movements in rock. Literal high-water marks on the shores of rock n' roll greatness...I have to watch/listen with a little tongue in cheek. And when I see an honest effort, but someone miss the mark (as most do) I'll just keep quiet.

So it is with true, heartwarming pleasure that I say, "damn fine job." Seriously. You wowed me. I'd go see it. I don't much care for the singer, and she can sing, but for me it's a bit of a mismatch. But the band seemed tight, not lost at all.

Good on ya! I loved it! You guys impressed a curmudgeon!

Re: Since I've been Loving You - Custard Pie Video

    That didn't suck... at all!

Nice, bright, harmonically rich tone from the guitars, the drummer's solid, the bass player's supportive and almost transparent (huge compliment!),the singer has a great voice, and excellent feeling for the material, a little "Janis" like character to her singing... just killer, and the playing sounds inspired and professional.

In the studio, with some original stuff, this band would be just great to record with... hint, hint... fire up the tape you guys!

This is like a textbook on one way to do a cover tune.

    GREAT job!

Re: Since I've been Loving You - Custard Pie Video

    Forgot to mention:

This should be a "must listen" for Historic players. I don't know what's powering the goldtop, but it's got that dry, bright, crying tone that I associate with the real deal. So many Historics are midrange mud machines that don't even come close to sounding like an old LP.

    KILLER tone.

I thought the singer nailed it. Let's face it, Plant sounded a little "girlish" anyways. Awesome job BTW, killer tone and touch.

This song is alot more to do with feel than anything else, since I've been playing it for years (couldn't resist the pun!) and they do a very nice job of capturing the emotion and feel of the tune. Not to mention great tone!..

Bodacious performance! If it had been all Page guitar and all Plant vocals, it would have been un-interesting. Impressive, but uninteresting.

Nice to hear the real deal in guitar tone and expression!

Great job on that song Jim, both guitars sounded great and singer belted it out too!!! And we cannot forget about the drummer and bass player who also did the song justice.

Jim - Quick question, where was this concert at?..I know it was a beach but where? Seems like you cant ask for a better venue..>Zeppelin..Les Pauls wailing, singer wailing, drummer and bass keeping it real,Ocean background!!..great job!!!

Wow! Damn fine job by the whole band. Nailed it. One of my favorite songs of all time, and my favorite Page. I too would LOVE to know about Woody's setup to get that tone. Jim, your guitar sounded great too!

You guys put this one out there. Thanks for sharing it!

Re: Since I've been Loving You - Custard Pie Video

Thanks for all the compliments guys! I thought it would be interesting to hear whether you guys thought theses Historics tone sounded like the real deal.

Woody's a monster player, so he can make just about ANY guitar sound great, but beyond that I thought the rig itself was quite well suited for that song, and actually most of our material (we play lots of Zepp).

His pickups are stock, so prolly burstbuckers. The amp is an 18w Bluesbreaker clone, 2x10's. For extra gain he uses a TS-9, sometimes 2, and a delay pedal as needed. He also like to use his wah pedal from time to time as a tone control.

My guitar ('06 VOS 59) is still basically stock (for now). The amp is a 65 JTM 45. I use a Klon for boost and a Bluesdriver for solos.

Moonlight Beach is in Encinitas, CA....just north of San Diego. The city hired us for that gig. It was really cool playing towards the ocean, with everyone sitting in the sand watching. Not many barefoot folks could dance cuz that asphalt in front of the stage was hotter than f**k, and their dance moves woulda looked like hillbillies at a "hoot-n-annie" ....:biglaugh:

There were about 300 people there by the time the show ended. When the encore came it made my arm hairs stand up & I nearly shit myself....never played to that many people before!

anytime bro! we haven't set the date yet for this years party, but when we do you are certainly invited!

Ok, here's some shameless "band spam" If anyone is coming to the San Diego guitar show next weekend, Custard Pie is playing just up the coast highway from the Del Mar Fairgrounds at a beach club called The Kraken, on FRIDAY nite 9/22. It would be nice to see some forum bros out there!

Incidentally there is a music fest that weekend at the Del Mar fairgrounds as well, right where the guitar show is at....George Throughgood and others will be there. This should add a little "spice" to an otherwise small guitar show.

disclaimer...we recorded this in the studio and pasted it over some video. Nevermind the DRUNKEN background vocals... ....we left them in there anyways because everytime we listen to this we get a good laugh and it brings back such good memories.....which is EXACTLY what this is all about for us. People spend big bucks on boutique pickups or real PAFs to get that sound. Guess it really is in the playing. Great job ! Also my fav Zep song!

LOL. I'm glad someone else hears that. I really caught it when the first remastered box set came out in the early 90's. LZ III was kind of flat - the remasters really improved it.
