hey mr.konrad, tell me about your 93 3 piece top amber standard . i think your guitar is very cool, i wanna know what it is. thanks! more:photos please if you can!

Thank you for your interest. I bought this guitar in 1993 in Germany. The price was much higher than for a normal standard ( ca. 3200.- German Marks). At this time Gibson produces Les Paul Classics with highly figured two piece tops. It must be a sort of special edition with that golden hardware and the three piece top. Pick ups are the ones used in Les Pauls (490s). The guitar has very dark fingerboard. The tone is very resonant. I only saw two similar guitars on ebay, which had bird´s eye tops ( information said, they were built for George Gruhn guitar shop in 1995), but I´ve never seen one like mine. For further information I ´ll ask Gibson Europe.

QUOTE=SHRIMP69;1377609]thanks a lot mr.konrad. i really like your custom std and i want one just like yours. i am a real "butterscotch" freak so i am already in love with your guitar. the concept of your guitar is very similar to the early 90s guitar center limited 3 piece top amber les paul studio. do you know those ones? please let me know all the info you got from gibson europe, i really wanna hear it. and if you ever wanna sell this one someday for some reason then let me know. i will gladly pay the highest amount for you. thank you very much. joe from japan! :)[/QUOTE]

Hi Joe,

I ´ve contacted Gibson Europe and they quickly answered the following:

I ´ll try to translate this for you:

The serial number belongs to a Les Paul Std.with three piece top and golden hardware from 1993. It was a sort of custom shop order (= maßgeschneiderte Bestellung), but it hasn´t been a special model for Germany. The guitar was not part of the normal production line. Because it was a custom order it´s possible that the guitar is unique.

Best wishes

I have one that could be the twin sister of yours. Looking at the photo of yours is like looking at my own. I'm at work now and don't have any photos currently. I will, however, post some as soon a possible. So, we know now there are at least two of them. I bought mine in Boston in 1994.

Your guitar is a Standard. By 'little brother' I'm thinking Studio was what was meant. :jim

Nice Standard BTW :salude

3 piece tops were the 'standard' for tops on LPs for a while. :jim
