Great illustration of head types, keep in mind machine screws have different threads from wood screws.

I think that the issue may either be a slighty differing threading spec or could just come down to it being an English vs Metric screw. I'll have to see if I can find my old thread gauges and simply measure. It's been a very long time since I've pulled these out, so finding those may be the biggest challenge of them all! :rofl
