• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I hope Gibson puts a stop to this crap.
Guitar might be great, but that shit is unnecessary crap done for posers [or worse]. :bigal

Rather than waiting for Gibson to do something about it, isn't it well within the remit of the owners of this site to ensure that fakes are not displayed on this dedicated Forum?

A simple blanket ban, none of this obscured headstock acrobatics, or moody soft porn out of focus photos.

Not Gibson? No coconut.

OP - don't take this too personally, it's a long on-going thing.

I think I've made my position clear over the many years here.
But, I am in the minority in this.
So be it. :salude

You have indeed Tom.

Have faith, tides turn, votes change. Lets keep our shoulders to the wheel on this one...

And there was me thinking that extra horn was the makers tell, to avoid confusing the bugger with the real thing....:laugh2:

Cool guitar looks like this one also has the 16fret or whole neck in the correct place for the 1959 model.
Now we need a sound clip!

I dont really care if it has the Gibson name or not.
But I would like in the control cavity some clear indication of what it is.

Not directed at you c-wester or anyone else in particular, but I often wonder, if it said Bartlett (et al ) on the headstock, precluding the need to have any other distinguishing cavity identification marks, what impact that would have on sales and desirability of ownership?

After all, from personal experience, these actually are exceptional guitars.

Why not stand on ones own ground, rather than someone else's hard earned?

Only then would I change it's nomenclature from outright fake to copy.

Great guitars they may be, but that is trumped in my mind by their pretence, and the delusion by some to negate that reality.

Maybe I should join in with the prevailing wind of shrugging my shoulders, only I just don't seem to be able to bring myself to do so.

It's a well trodden argument, and frankly I have no idea why I'm retreading old ground again, other than one's mind does wander when one is worried...

I'm a bit confused. :hmm

There's an entire thread devoted to Les Paul replicas. For the most part, I notice that they don't tend to feature the headstock. Is that because they, too, say "Gibson" and the owner's posting pictures don't want this type of response? Or do the majority of replicas posted here feature another monicker? I find it difficult to believe they do but maybe I'm just uninformed.

Me Wife's battling Cancer mate, if I'm being candid, and I can't think of a good enough reason not to be.

Halfway through an 18 week chemo protocol after major surgery.

Been a rough year.

This gives me a far stronger reaction than someone using the gibson design/label.

Stay strong, positive thoughts your way!

my bad, shouldn't start this. haha

No...it's not your bad.

I would like someone to address this, please. Lin is a brand new member. He posts pictures of a replica Les Paul which I'm assuming was made by Tom Bartlett given what he wrote. We allow threads devoted to such replicas and they are owned by many members here. So why has he been treated like this? Is it simply because he posted pictures of the Gibson logo on the headstock? How many of the other replicas have the same? I know that a recent video posted by a long time member clearly shows his replica with the Gibson logo visible and he got nothing but compliments.

I understand how many people feel about replicas, especially the vintage owners. But if we allow replicas to be posted on this Forum, knowing they are built with that moniker on the headstock, I believe that Lin is owed an apology. He posted pictures of something he is proud of, assuming it was a safe place to do so and that's how he's greeted. I'm embarrassed by the way he was treated here.

We can't have our cake and eat it to. If we allow replicas to be posted, knowing many say Gibson on the headstock, it shouldn't matter whether or not that detail is included in the picture. Otherwise we're simply turning a blind eye to something we're against. We should either allow them to be posted in all their glory or ban them entirely. The message sent is otherwise totally confusing. I know I'm confused by it.
