exactly Wilko, I would have said the same.

I've been playing old Marshall and Hiwatt toghether for years, head and cabs, to achieve a similar tone by mixing them.
Works nice, but it seems here to be all of this in a single amp with the best of both worlds :salude

The Page amp appears to be basically the two-input "SAP" preamp with a tweak or two (a fairly rare beast, but well documented) with a more normal Hiwatt back end, plus a choke in the power supply. I'm going to try to post a schemo on my Hiwatt site when I get some time. (http://mhuss.com/Hiwatt/).

Great sound on that clip, and you have certainly done alot of research.
I had no idea that stairway solo was a tele. I just assumed that it was the double neck sg.
Thanks again

Hi.... yes your DR103S model Hiwatt is one of the rare ones that has the footswitch input and balance control, but the function of the footswitch on yours is different than on mine (and Page's).... Yours is used to blend between normal and brilliant channels (which is a pretty cool idea actually). My circuit is already voiced as if brilliant and normal have been blended and the footswitch and balance control acts as a volume cut....

Ed, I was wondering about the Volume cut fonction: does it actually act as a cut of the "input" volume (volume knob) or a cut of the Master volume?

Excellent!

Selling designs that one has no legal ownership of, is quite distasteful!

And here's another shot to fill in the puzzle some more..... This is July '71 Milan.... You can clearly see the Hiwatt with the big XLR input on the front panel so of course you know its Page's..... so now we have pix of him in April, July and November of '71 with him playing his Hiwatt. So again its a good bet he used it throughout most of that year. Whether he used it for the BBC show of that year (as people have asked), we'll never know for sure unless a photo surfaces!.....

Mark Huss is an excellent guy.

He isn't selling anything.

Sorry if there is some confusion regarding Mark.

If you look closely though it doesn't look like he's plugged in to the hiwatt in the above photo. Is that a marshall on the right?

Same gos for the bath festival, there's the hiwatt(not the same as this threads custom model) with nothing plugged in and his butchered arbiter power one hundred, but strangely the amps don't appear in all the photos. In some pics they are on top of the marshall cabinets, but in others they are nowhere to be seen.

Very weird! :hmm

Yes youre right, it looks like he's not plugged into it in the Milan shot. And I do see a hint of gold on the right so maybe thats the Marshall and he was using it for that show. We know in April of the same year the photo I posted shows him linking both the Hiwatt and Marshall with the footswitch plugged in to the Hiwatt. And in the Nov. '71 shot you see two Hiwatts again and no Marshall... I think its safe to say that in '71 he was experimenting more than in '70 where I cant find any shots of a Marshall. And by Feb '72 (Australia) he made the definite switch to Marshall....

Here's the pic from the 1970 Bath festival I mentioned...

Yeah he wasnt plugged into either of those. You mention a butchered Arbiter, I thought the one on the right is a typical earlier script logo Hiwatt?... But I dont know that much about the history of Hiwatt, why did you think its Arbiter?...... What he was playing through at that show seems to be out of sight. I personally have never seen photos of him plugged into a standard four hole Hiwatt, only his signature Hiwatt, but I could be wrong...

I was at Bath Shepton mallet festival in 1970, I remember Zeppelin put on a great show, but at the time I wouldn't have a clue what Page was playing through.

Awesome that you were at that show.... One of the best ever posters I bought in the 70s came from that show!..... I also have a terrible quality bootleg from it..... they debuted an early version of Immigrant Song, the vocals were quite different from what ended up on the album.....
