Bored, more R9 pics..

I've had this guitar(2001) posted before but I got bored and started snapping some shots , some with different lighting. If you guys are like me, you cant get enough! It also went from 8 pounds 9 ounces to 8 pounds 6 ounces after removing the Grovers and putting the Klusons( Gibson Deluxe) back on.

Yean, I think on that shot I didnt use the flash but stuck a desk lamp close to it. Its funny, at some angles the flame is pretty subtle.

Hey kwoo64, did you buy your `01 R9 new or used? If you bought it used, how long have you had it?

I bought it used and haven't had it that long, 3 or 4 months maybe. It was on Ebay for a while as the Kid Rock historic, belonged to his guitar player. The pictures on there didnt do it justice at all though. It was probably handpicked due to the top, weight and the very dark fingerboard. I'm not sure if I like the flat frets but I think I got a pretty good deal on it at $2800, had Grovers.

I knew your guitar looked familiar!! I`ve checked out that guitar many times! It used to belong to Kenny Olsen, from Twisted Brown Trucker. He traded it in on a Fender Custom Shop Muddy Waters Tele. I thought that your pics looked like that guitar, but the red looks a little bit lighter in the pics than it does "in person". At least that`s how it looks on my screen. I almost bought that guitar but I bought an `03 brazilian R8 instead when Gibson announced the discontinuation of the braz. You got the guitar at a great price! :dude

Your guitar has really nice flame. One of the pics that you posted almost shows how it can have different looks depending on the viewing angle. When seen "in person", from one angle it looks like most of your pics, but when viewing it from a playing position it almost looks like a completely different guitar the way the flame changes from a tiger stripe type of look to a wavy non tiger stripe look. You don`t see alot of Historics that do that. The finish has a little bit of an aged patina to it too.

I talked to Kenny about the guitar and he said that it has special wound Antiquities in it, but he didn`t know exactly what the special wind was. I heard that he bought the guitar in New York.

Nice guitar! Enjoy!!

R9 vs Vintage LP

Over the last couple of weeks I have A/B'd my 2001 R9 with a friend's '62 Paul trhough a variety of set-ups and amps. No comparison. The '62 blows away my R9 in every respect. Tone, neck, finger board, etc. I am a bit bummed.

There is no such thing as a `62 Paul. Maybe you`re talking about a `62 SG that says Les Paul on the truss rod cover? In that case, comparing your guitar to an SG is like comparing apples to oranges. Regardless, just about any late `50`s Les Paul will win in comparison to a modern Historic. It`s the "old wood", among other things that have many years of aging, that can`t be reproduced on a new guitar. You have to compare your Historic to other Historics to find the one you like, or do some mods/upgrades to it. The Historics are what they are, great guitars!! I have no problems with the ones I have chosen other than the fact that they`re not from the late `50`s!!

MK.II, Thanks for the info on the guitar, I have been trying to fade it a bit, maybe its working if you think it was more red! Yeah it had some Seths in it, but I ended up putting my Voodoo 59 in the front and an Antiquity(with the stronger magnet) in the bridge, no complaints on the tone. I have been messing around with doing the wraparound some, still trying to find the sweet spot. I wish it had the frets like the newer ones has instead of the flatter ones but I hate to change them out if they aint shot. Its cool that you saw the guitar in person and were thinking about buying it.
