Any Good Historic Dealers Near L.A.?

I'm going to be in L.A. in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone can recommend any good Historic dealers in the area.

Thanks,

Most places I know have a sprinkling of Historics, but I think Norm's Rare Guitars in Canoga Park has a good selection, from what I remember. Just don't expect a bargain, and the custormer service is a bit lacking.

Since when did Norm's even have one Historic? Not anytime I've ever been there.

The customer service statement is almost correct. It is extremely lacking.

ACK! Was I thinking about another store? It's been a while since I was there. I tried to buy a Les Paul from them two years ago, but their wonderful customer service drove me away.:dead:

I live in Southern Cal also, but I don't know of any decent Historic dealers in the area. None that I could come close to recommending.

I don't know if it's near enought to L.A. or not, but Centre City Music in San Diego has got to be the best Historic Dealer in So. Cal. I was there last weekend. I think they do a lot of their buying during winter NAMM because their inventory was better than I have ever seen before. It was pretty impressive. The reviews on the service are mixed, but my experience has always been positive. The prices and selection are top notch.

If you were going to L.A. with the intention of buying a Historic LP, and getting a GOOD deal, it would be a wasted trip.

If you want to go check some out, you can go to the GC in Hollywood on Sunset Blvd, they usually have a few. The Manny's that just opened in Hollywood carries some Historics, and you might also find a few in the Sam Ash on the same street. There's about 10 guitar shops, including Voltage Guitars for some vintage stuff. The Vintage Room at Hollywood GC is a cool thing to check out, also. They've always got some really cool pieces there, and they're usually priced twice as much as you'd like to pay!

Sorry =(

My wife is going to be there on business, so I am meeting her for an extended weekend. I just thought if there was anyplace to checkout, then I'd take a look. As far as Centre City Music is concerned, I bought my Les Paul Standard from Saul. Service was great, as was the guitar! I don't think I'll be making it down to San Diego this time though. I'll probably just hit the stores you mentioned for fun, not to buy. Thanks, guys!

Here's what you should do. Rent a car, drop the wife off at Hollywood and Highland, so she can get some high end shopping done. Maybe go with her and see Grumman's Chinese theater and all the hand/foot prints in the sidewalk. Let her continue to shop, and take off south on Highland to Sunset Blvd. Go west on Sunset for about 4 miles, and you'll hit the row. GC and Voltage are on the north side of the street, and Manny's, Carvin, Mesa Boogie, and some other small shops are on the south side. If you go farther west, you'll hit Sam Ash at the 8000 block of Sunset. There's a Wolfgang Puck's and a movie theater there as well.

Heh Heh, I just got laid off from Manny's on Saturday!2
They've got a decent selection of Class 5s, as well as a 57RI GT, two great 58 RIs, and a 59RI. Just keep in mind that they are owned by Sam Ash, and you will not get a deal.:dead:

Actually Voltage, together with three other small shops, is on Gardner, which crosses Sunset just west of Guitar Center (go north on Garder).

Then, if you're not too burned out after you go to the big Sam Ash where the Wolfgang's and movie theate are, keep heading west on Sunset, then south on La Cienega. Just south of Santa Monica Bl. is Black Market Music -- a lot of fun old stuff.

Neither one has any Historics that I know of, but The Amp Shop in Sherman Oaks, and Truetone Music in Santa Monica are my favourite shops. Cool boutique pedals and amps!

I don't know what the selection is like now, but you can get great deals at West L.A. Music (I worked at the Universal City location).

I'm merely suggesting places to look. I KNOW you can't get a good deal at any of the places on Sunset!!!

I was talking about the Sam Ash family of stores. Their discount options are insulting.
