Historic Dealer location?
Howdy!
I live in the Pacific Northwest where there seems to be an absolute dearth of Historic dealers - and I really want to check out some Historics. Anybody know of any locations out here? Are Historics only available at authorized dealers? |

Hey I'm from seattle, I've noticed the same thing. Guitar Center has a 58ri but the tone on that particular one wasn't that great, plus I would never buy from GC anyways. American Music had a 56ri GT once and it sounded awesome but I haven't seen any other historics there since. Maybe Snags could help out with this dillema.

GC?
My understanding is that GC's LA Vintage shop is the only "full line " GC historic shop. All other stores receive a token supply of R-8's (no R-9's etc) to fit their market demand. Some of their stuff may otherwise be so called NOS (iow:used).GC has too much inventory as it is, so can't stock every store with everything.
As far as other dealers, the others on this site can tell you more details, but basically Gibson authorizes a "limited" number of historic dealers, while some non-historic dealers also carry a limited supply of historics. Check the Gibson Historic & Custom Shop site for more info, or even other posts on this site. Last edited by Aggie : 09-09-01 at 02:02 AM. |

NOS
Selling used guitars as NOS, that's wrong. That's basically giving a store an excuse to charge too much on a used instrument. Then again I've seen some NOS that's been sitting on the music stands so long, they look worse than a used instrument that was cared for. I've bought some "supposedly" NOS Gibson guitars before (Gibson ES 335 & Gibson Les Paul Custom). I point out the number of dings on instrument and year it was made by reading the serial #. I manage to chop down their asking price to acceptable levels.
Speaking of authorized Custom shop dealers, it's a shame that my local music store can't get the 59 Les Paul RI. They told me they were not authorized by Gibson to carry those because they didn't sell enough Gibson instruments, (because not too many people have the dough to afford even a standard production line gibson....which doesn't surprise me, even though my store gets a slim margin to complete against the superstores, Gibson is asking too much for their dealer cost.... lower your prices, Gibson!!!!!). What a shame, I would like to try one out (I don't have $ 3K-4K in cash to afford one though). Anyways.... I can't wait to get my Historic 1957 RI Les Paul Goldtop. Hopefully I can get it before my birthday in October....whooooo wooooooo!!!!! KennyY |
