Who can tell it from an average R9, if not for the very expensive COA.
Soundwise !
Your point extends beyond the CC's. What makes any Historic signature model special or significantly different than a regular R9? Whether you're talking Pearly's & Page's or CC's like Sandy & The Babe, they're all ultimately just Historic LP's.

The Ace Budokan makes the least sense to me. Why buy a 2012 copy of a Norlin for 6K when you can buy the real thing on CL for $2500?

You own Murphy aged, signature models and I don't see any significant difference between them and the CC runs.

Signature models including CC's and sig models of other makers are mostly for fans. If there is a difference, it's just in the specific electronics/mods, finishes and neck profiles...

I'm not crazy about the laminate boards, but I'm not into relicing either. I would never pay a couple thousand dollars to have a guitar artificially aged. I don't think it's a big deal, just preferences. Getting back to CC 4, I think the Sandy's have cool tops and the dirty lemon finish looks great.

Too bad it had to come to this. I, for one, will miss his cheerful and upbeat posts.

I completely disagree that Steven is a troll and in my opinion shouldn't be banned for any of his posts to this thread. He's been saying stuff like this for years so why now? MikeS wasn't bothered by it in the least... Like Stock Hippie, he adds a little color to the place, but unlike Hippie at least he owns a Les Paul or 40... It's not like he's an internet psycho like Nico or the Emperor... He's just a confrontational grouch... I think the ban should be lifted...

Re: Sandy Collector's Choice #4

Is this the first Gibson you've owned Mike where you think Gibson did a good job with the aging?

In the past you've been a fan of Murphy's work but you didn't like the aging on some of your other guitars such as the Felder and the Clapton 335

Yes, they've finally learned how to age a guitar IMHO.

Mike,
might have missed this but what is the weight? similar to the original? Does Gibson even try and take it that far as to try and pick bodies and tops that will weigh close to the original CCs?

Haven't weighed it, but will do so. Feels like the mid 8 lbs. range.

First Mike great addition- they really nailed the looks. i hope it has that vintage weight thing going on like some of the 2009's- they were 8.9lbs but felt "airy".
I would love to hear a clip thru your BFDR if you are so inclined.

Thanks Pat...

I don't like the 'if you can't beat 'em, ban 'em mentality...' If you don't like what someone says, ignore or out-argue them but don't censor...

If Cogs had given me a little more time, I would have taken him out in a dazzling display of logic anyway...

Well, it's heavier than I thought. 8 lbs. 12 oz. Perhaps it's the weight of that glue in the laminated fretboard...

Didn't Steve once post that he thought you spent $3,000 a year on carpet cleaning? That alone right there would have pissed me off sideways. Good to see you are keeping things civil. Great guitar by the way.

I'm certainly not for banning people just because they're an occasional ass. or because they disagree with people when there's so logic behind their argument.
But when someone is consistently an ass, never offers ANYTHING useful, and is just mean spirited, they really just need to take their vitriol elsewhere.

It's beautiful Mike but I have a question for you or Tom. I remember Sandy through the years here but don't remember that jack plate. It looks like your pic shows this model comes with a metal plate behind the plastic plate. Is that what I'm seeing and if so what type of metal is used? I'm assuming it's for stability since the plastic tears etc.. Thanks and enjoy your new addition!

You have good eyes. There is indeed a metal plate under it. I'm assuming that is because The original Sandy has it. The plastic jack plate on mine also has one corner broken off, and I don't know whether that was on purpose to emulate the original or whether mine was damaged in shipping. I'm hoping that Tom Wittrock will chime in on this one.
