Pot install follow up

I installed the ep0086 CTS-allparts short-shaft pots in my R8 last friday. Much improved and amazingly brought out the character of the pickups a bit more. Seems like a bit more presence....didn't realize pots made that much of a difference.

I ordered 6 pots. They ranged from 480K to 515K. After some trial and error, I put the 2 around 510-515 in the volume position and 2 pots in the 480's in the tone position and this seemed to sound pretty damn good. Played around with the caps...so far I am digging the .01's and with them I'm actually using the tone pots. Everything sound superb! Thanks for all the help guy's!

Short shaft? I thought the long shafts were the correct choice for a LP???

I am about to upgrade my pots ('54 RI) and I was preparing to purchase 500k, split shaft, long shaft CTS pots. Is this correct?

Thanks
Mike

Short shafts for the RI, long shafts on production.

Or you can use the long shaft CTS's and space them properly with washers. The long shaft CTS's have a brass post which I think has a better feel.

BTW....I used the short shafts with the "hold" washer on the underside with the pointer and nut on top.

Does anyone have the exact stock number and supplier for the CTS 500K Short Split Shaft that will replace the new Gibson "Historic" pots, My Y2k is bleeding volume, it wouldn't shut off with all the pots rolled back you can still play. The controls have not been tampered with, just good old Gibson quality!
Thanks for any useful info.

Plankspanker, Search on pots and there is a post that covers/explains your volume bleed when all are turned off.
