Re: THE BURST THAT GOT AWAY

Happy Summer Mike!! Those two are my all time favorites...even moreso after seeing all the fabulous guitars in this thread. Lots of really superb LPs, but these are still the ones to me.

Re: THE BURST THAT GOT AWAY

Great to hear you're doing OK Mike.

Oh, and 9 0850 (Lucido?) did I miss the History on this one, i.e. where it came from, or is it just part of Vic's collection that's he's had for a while? I don't remember seeing it before, but there are SO many great Burst pics in this thread it's beyond belief. I wish someone had the time to edit it, maybe even put the Bursts in order with any pertinent details about them. But I know that's asking the impossible!

In the meantime, stay healthy Mike, as healthy as this superb thread.

Just going by memory here but Ed King bought 9-0850 from Frank Lucido for the then unheard of sum of $8,500, then the guitar went to Europe as part of a collection and spent the next 25 years there. After the european collector dies the guitar returns to the US and it's current owner Vic DaPra. How am I doing?

I don't know what LPs Vic has but I do recall that the last time I remember him being on here he unveiled a previously undiscovered burst(maybe 2-3 yrs ago) and it was in part vigorously questioned by some as to its authenticity/provenance, to the point of being labelled a fake or an Historic.............that put the kibosh on anything further from him, which is understandable.

Cool... Yes time flies... That burst was pretty amazing...

BTW I love the the pics of Mike B holding the Brock, and fast forward to the recent pic of him holding 9 0850... Two of the coolest guitars on the planet IMNSHO... Will Gibson do a CC Brock or 9 0850 one day?

Anything is possible.
Have you seen the CC#4 prototype of Sandy in the historic section, that's going to be just a great run of LPs when they happen

Re: THE BURST THAT GOT AWAY

Thanks Guys .The thread Shred brought up for us is one of the last things Vic gave to Tw to be posted on the LPF.He was not happy with some of the comments which to me had no grounds in fact.It Looks to good to be real?Come on that is a bit of a stretch from a few photo's.I have had this guitar in my hands a few times and it is 100% strait.I will bet any guitar i own on it.Vic did give me some new photo's which i posted in this thread. He does not send a lot of shots to be posted here .You can check out some shots on his facebook page. Thanks Mike B.

I remember that one, wasn't it suggested a re-top had been done or something. I see the link, but I'm sure I remember the thread, things got pretty heated IIRC.

I like the pic of Joe B holding 9 0627 - has this one been discussed here? I don't remember it, looks slightly reminiscent of Sandy. I won't re-produce the pic just now as it would be stealing from someone else's Facebook page.

It's unfortunate there were some hard feelings over a couple guys questioning 9-0291's provenance. For the most part, the guys here are respectful and appreciative of the collectors who are willing to sacrifice their time & anonymity to share their burst pics and experiences. The internet can be like quicksand and things can turn south pretty quick. Even name players/collectors occasionally need thick skin on this forum, so I can see it not being worth the hassle for some...

So, thanks to the Burst Brethren especially TW for standing in the front lines & slugging out on the LPF everyday... Also thanks to Vic & others who share their great photos directly/indirectly on this forum. Of course, special thanks to MikeB for his positive attitude and posting so many killer photos/stories of these great guitars

Thanks for the kind words Mike. I've really enjoyed this thread and even know some bursts by their serial numbers now.

I think everyone appreciates your enthusiastic, friendly & positive contributions to the forum. There's a lot of testosterone fueled sabre rattling here and I'm always impressed that you stay positive and don't rise to the bait. I also thought your guitar wreath for Andreja was a great gesture.

Thanks for a awesome thread and stay healthy...
