McLovin's Historic Family

All 2011 Historics. 1 Western Desert 1958 Stinger (BB 1959 it is believed); R0 Ebony VOS; 1959 Yamano Stanley burst (I believe also known as Sunrise T-Burst); R0 Ebony Gloss; R0 Gold Top Dark Back.

I noticed, the 2 Ebony R0's in this collection have different knobs. One is VOS and the other is Gloss. I don't know why they are different however, but this is factory shipped.
Shrugs

Re: McLovin's Historic Family

The knobs are different because, I'm guessing, one is an R0.

Re: McLovin's Historic Family

Both Ebony are R0's, both 2011. One is VOS, one is Gloss.

Knobs are different however.

I think I see a trend developing. And, I "totally" understand...

Re: McLovin's Historic Family

Also noticed that the gloss one has double ring tuners and reflectors, so this would be the late '60 variant, where as the VOS has more '59 features. How about that far out theory?

Again, you have fueled my GAS for an ebony LP.

Re: McLovin's Historic Family

Kris,

Thank you for the post on the knobs/reflectors being different. I have been curious as to why they are in fact different. Does this mean, Gibson chose to put the 59 knobs and single tuners on to reflect a early 60's, vs some kind of unexplainable anomaly that is historically incorrect?

It's still correctly a 60's then? true?

Re: McLovin's Historic Family

I'd think so, as long as the first digit of the serial is 0...and that parts changes didn't happen right on Jan 1, 1960, there's a lot of overlap. Case in point, the '58 Goldtops...

Re: McLovin's Historic Family

I suppose technically speaking, black wasn't a 60's colour anyway, was it?

It diminishes the concept of 'historic' to some degree.
But I sure love black

There's a black '60 in BOTB. Historically accurate. .. Doesn't have late '60 knobs, and I haven't seen any yet with them, but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there, somewhere, still hiding! It is possible, relax and enjoy! She's beautiful!
