I disagree..what's wrong with pinstripe flames? Bookmatched top...Also not a great picture, the guitar might look a lot nicer in person.

It's not even a R9 on that pic..
I guess they just put up a pic of a usa standard or traditional that LOOKED like the one described in the ads' text.

That angle of figure is highly desired in the violin world, and is pretty rare....

That being said, they should have traded it off for some slip-match slab-cut Eastern....

...it's not the greatest picture for it looked like it was photo chopped?...
But i bet this in person would be the tits.

Best is to check out in person or get them to e-mail the real exact pictures instead.

Peace!!

It's not the real image of the guitar you'd get. Click to view larger, it has a nashville bridge, it's got multiply binding.
It looks like those images you used to able to make on the old Gibson site years ago, where you picked all your own features. Things are clearly superimposed on.

The picture is just a very bad photoshop collage. It's most likely not the real guitar advertised.

That has to be one of the WORST photoshop disasters I've seen. What is up with the dark binding? Notice it has FOUR strap pins, two on each end. The TP, bridge, pickups, pickguard, knobs, ALL have been photoshopped on (or the flamed top was photoshopped on). Notice NO SHADOWS from any hardware! Nashville bridge on a Historic '59 WHAT?

These folks, if they approve of this, no nothing about Gibson Historics! Totally lame. Stay away, far away.

I don't think it's real. And neither do I think it's photoshopped.
This looks like a picture from the old Gibson Custom Shop website where you could 'build' your own guitar, selecting from a variety of options (color, binding, inlays, and so on).

Exactly what I was saying yeh!
That site is clearly just using an old image they had from the old gibson site for some of their les pauls. God knows why, would be far more beneficial to get a camera and let people see what they pay for!

I agree. When did a "chevron" pattern become a negative?

Re: Check out the terrible chevron on this R9

A lot of people(myself included)like a chevron top, but one that's more subtle. I know this is a mock up guitar, but I have seen tops similar to this in the real world. For me, the angle is too hard, sharp, and severe. Nothing graceful about it.

Re: Check out the terrible chevron on this R9

When you use an extreme angle such as this guitar, it is impossible to glue up the seam without the glue wicking into the wood, also, one would be hard pressed to match up the flames because of the carving.

Re: Check out the terrible chevron on this R9

I've seen tops where the flame starts out fairly perpendicular to the seam, but as it goes towards the end strap pin it starts to "chevron" quite dramatically until it's at virtually at the angle shown in the OP image.

They're often put up here for discussion, and there have been some real oddball looking ones that draw very strong "marmite" reactions.

Here's a pic of Mike Slub's '09 R9 that's pretty close to the "virtual" axe above. I still like the chevron thing:

Chevron tops seem to really polarize folks - either love it or hate it. Reverse chevron pics really bring out the burning torches!
