Outstanding color! Love it
Congrats !

Just one question:
Is Dave still working for HM? I heard that Kim had recently formed a new team to replace Dave. Rumor?

Kim is still doing HM and Dave is on his own doing makeovers.

Need more close-up pics! Awesome work!

Looks ab-fab! Dave's work just continues to be absolutely top-of-the-line. Anyone who's got a "Dave" should count themselves very fortunate.

Re: HM Dave Johnson Pictorial

I agree he nailed the color. Very nice fiddle!!! Buddy is your guitar??

Beautiful burst as well. Do you think the tone has changed to be closer to vintage tones?

I would love to have my guitar done up. It sounds fantastic now but I'm betting that the vintage accurate changes will really make a positive difference.

Very cool man thanks for posting!!!

Re: HM Dave Johnson Pictorial

Congratulations on the makeover. It looks spectacular!

Wow! Yeah, seeing the guitars together, Dave really did nail the color of Buddy.

Even that fade of the burst around the toggle switch area looks almost identical to the original. That's impressive.

Soundwise, is the makeover in the same league as Buddy?

I believe it was one of the last of the original contracted HM to go through. And yes this guitar really looks great. Can't argue with the pics. Congrats I am sure you are a happy camper to have her Home.

I don't have a "Dave" but I do have a Johnson, for which I likewise count myself very fortunate.

That was a good job from DJ.
Not easy to get the real color at the first shoot but the lucky owner has a great new toy now.
AMAZING LOOKS very cool authentic color.

CONGRATULATIONS Wizard and play it in good health!!!

I'm really lucky! I've got 3 Dave HM's! As soon as I can find an R-8, I'll be sending it to Kim for their new Makeover. I need to find someone that will trade my mint `63 Barney Kessel-Reg. for a new `10 R-8

Great looking Brazilian board, too.

What kind of pickups do you have in it?

Because the routes for the pickups and controls have been corrected to `50's specs, the maple top is slightly thinner as is the rosewood fingerboard like `50's specs and some of the other shaping and layout are to actual `50's specs.

Re: HM Dave Johnson Pictorial

Congrats on a great HM - excellent color match!

IMO a lot of shops steel-wool/sand the fingerboard and inlays when they re-fret or do fretwork. This scrubs the color off the inlays and leaves them white. I suspect this happened to Buddy over the years.

Sorry for the OT but does Buddy have any Bigsby holes in the top? It looks like a Burst I saw recently where the Bigs rested on 2 felt (or rubber?) pads with no screws into the top; the pads reacted with the finish and left discolored circles.

True - nonethess: good to know what they look like without the weathering.

What's even more interesting is that it's in one league with Buddy now.. so apparently it's not the "old wood" that makes vintage guitars sound differently

ah ha! This is what people want to know about. When you say its in the same league as Buddy what do you men??? Can you give more detail about how the tone/playability has improved to be more "burst like"?

A lot of folks debate this constantly. Its an interesting topic.
