lonely ... verified... Gibson Braz board

I don't really know where I'm going with this thread. It's just something kinda interesting, that you don't see every day, so I thought I'd post it .... make what you will. This is the verified Brazilian board, in tact , that originally sat on my R9 . Now it sits in my room. All that fuss about the verified braz guitars ... and here it is ..... a piece of wood. Told you I was lost for direction with this . Just thought you might be interested to see the holy grail (to some) .... naked

Just so that your board will no longer be lonely, here's the board off of my 1956 Junior to keep it company. Back in the seventies I bought a boogered Junior to which some goofball had drilled out the fretmarkers and filled them with wood putty. Eventually, I ended up replacing the fretboard and thus this dissected Brazilian slab has been sitting in my parts drawer ever since.

That could be pretty valuable...You could convert a 335 into a dot neck for the visually impaired with that thing!

+1 brother! If I told you how much dough I've sunk into my R6 makeover, someone would send the boys in white coats to take me to the asylum. I don't regret a single dollar spent!

Guitar version of the "old folk's phone" with huge buttons.

Re: lonely ... verified... Gibson Braz board

The Braz board had a bit of shape to it after removal, which was going to be a staller (in an already too lengthy process).... and whilst I was going the whole hog, I wanted the 'vintage correct' shape Inlays fitted..... can't have them without a new Braz board.

Kind of funny because this is how I feel about my Stinger. Granted, the fretboard is still glued to the guitar in my case but I'm of the same train of though. I look at it and think "this is what all the fuss is about..." I love it, don't get me wrong, it sounds great and I'm fortunate to just own a Brazilian but at times it's "this is what all the fuss is about??"

Is it unusable, or does it just need a lot of "attention" to fix it? If the former, it's got to have some value. Maybe not a whole lot, but some.

Do you think it will ever be worth re-useing with trap or custom inlays? Or just too much effort for something that won't look right upon close inspection?

Re: lonely ... verified... Gibson Braz board

If you looked at Historics in a down to earth manner, you'd never buy anything. You can get a brazilian board blank for 15 quid or so. The prices commanded for Gibson verified braz reissues is pure vanity. Personally I'd much rather pay the same money for a historic that had been through the HM process. What not sell the board , or even have a little brazilian bonfire?

If you can get me a Brazilian board blank for even four times that price I'll take it!

I think there are certain people who over hype them. BUT they are nice. Especially if you get one with very few pours in the wood, they seem to be smoother players.

Man, until I saw that photo, I thought I owned the world's most buggered '56 LP Jr.

Guess I was wrong.

It's got some shape to it along the left side ..... I'm no luthier so I can't say how useful it is. it is proper good Braz though.
