I think you should check the intonation on that guitar. The locations of the saddles looks really off.

Dan,

Is the one supposedly owned by Brian Robertson (a 52 or 53 chambered goldtop) not legit ?

The link on his website is still up.

http://robbo.thin-lizzy.com/

It's in his gear list about halfway down :

"In the early years of Thin Lizzy Robbo also played a very old Les Paul with white P90 soapbar pickups (left). It is probably a 1952 or 1953. The guitar is a bit special because it is hollowed out and in an interview Robbo said that Mick Ralphs had met Les Paul himself and had discovered that it was built for Les Paul's then wife Mary Ford. He can be seen with it in the "Wild One" video footage and he was also seen playing with it more recently with Sinnead O´Connor."

I've wondered about this one for several years but attempts to find out have drawn a blank.

By the way, for anyone curious, here's a recent video of one of my R8s played on a Metro JTM50 with a vintage 4x12 cabinet, original 25 watts greenbacks inside:

Killer tone as usual Solo! Is that the Bray Plexi sitting on it's side? Are you liking the Metro JTM50 better?

I guess I had worded that poorly. Sorry. I meant that a hollow 50's "burst" had not been found but I was not aware that Robb Lawrence has seen a semi hollow 60 burst. The goldtop that Brian Robertson has is probably legit as Les said. My attempts to find out more about it have also drawn a blank. Les had also said that he had several hollow Customs and maybe a few others. I assumed by others he meant goldtops as Les had said that he didn't own a 50's burst. I would love to see some x-rays of that goldtop and whatever Les had in his collection to see how those semi hollow ones compare to the chambers of today. Some of the ones from the 50's that we see and think of as solid may actually have chambers that we are unaware of. Remember that a lot of us were shocked to find out about the swiss cheese holes that were used to reduce weight a few years back.

Thanks Andy.
I'm liking the Metro better with Les Pauls and less with SGs.
When I use SGs, it's mainly for AC/DC stuff up to 1980.
A JTM50 like that Metro is not correct for AC/DC (Angus') stuff of that era. I just bought a couple vintage JMPs, a 100watter and a 50 watter of the late '70s just for this.
The Metro is an exceptional tone machine and pushed with a pedal, could even deliver that kind of drive. All still needs to be experimented.

Now, if a day was made of 36 hours, it'd be easier on me ;)

You can drive yourself crazy choosing which amp sounds more like AC/DC in the 70's vs. the 80's! I know I would, given the time! I'd love to hear those JMP's, to see how they compare to the Brey and Metro. When you get the time, of course.
