Re: whats the cheapest way to get a historic

Matt - i bought my first historic when I was 18 (26 now)...worked real hard for it but managed to get it finally...anyways i live in mass too and besides GC there are two Gibson CS dealers..Matt's Music in Weymouth, MA (forum sponsor) and Bill's Music in Peabody (weird but nice guy to deal with)...where abouts are you located? I too gotta visit Mark's sometime but I just added a 50th anniv R0 a week ago so I'm done for this year...Good luck on your hunt...there are deals out there still...

Do what allot of us do, and blow off the car insurance, muffler repair, new tires, go late on the rent, and load the credit card up to the max.

If you don't play'em first you'll probably go through a few. Just like any other guitar there are good and bad Historics.

Save your bread and pay the premium for being able to play one first. It'll save you a lot of heartache.

I've never run into a bad Historic and my experience is limited as I've only played 4.

I have run into a couple of duds. And I have played some great ones as of late. One G0 I played had the most vibration of any, and it sounded sooooo good. Most of the ones I tried had a good tone, but nothing special. Just tight wood and focused tone. But there are differences.

Re: whats the cheapest way to get a historic

I just picked up my first Historic after playing a few. I took a chance and bought it off another forum. A G0 I played at a store was really good. I could hear and feel a difference vs. my 2000 Standard. My Standard has Seth Lovers and BB caps and does sound and play really good. There was just somehting about the G0 that made me want to play it. The I played a used '57 that was exepensive and the frets felt rough. Wasn't crazy about the neck. I played two '58 that were really good but again the neck felt very big. Then I played a replica built about 20 years ago. Fantastic but it was a touch heavy and they guy wanted 5 g's. Well the GO came yesterday and it rings and vibrates and does everything right and its light. The seller sent new caps and pots that he was going to replace but I think its fine stock. I called him and he said thats why he never did the mod...he ended up a Fender guy though so thats why he sold it. The neck isn't tiny. I think its just right and the G0 was the cheapest of them all but ended up being right for me ...thats my story, hope it helps.

Mark will give you a VERY fair price if he has the guitar you are looking for. He has a large selection of pre-owned Gibsons. Plus, he's an expert and will be able to very accurately describe a guitar's tone, neck, weight, condition, etc. Don't dismiss Mark's just because you think you'll get a better deal bottom-trolling on Craigslist.

My local GC has a cute chick at the door security checkpoint. I'm always happy to see her!

GC....GC.

Oh Guitar Center? Is that what that is? OK um yeah haven't had the urge to go there in a long time. Nothing interesting or worthwhile behind those doors.

Re: whats the cheapest way to get a historic

hi mark! keep hunting! time will come

i live in france i've kept my cheap studio for 14 years and this year i found a R8 plain top iced tea from 2007 for 1800 euros which is 2500 dollars

it's like new but in VOS finish and all stock

the guy needed money and fast so i sold my studio for 650 euros (damm!) and my spare amp for 220 euros damm again!)

but it was worth it especially since in france we don't have many used historics on sale and at that price

so cheer up you country is big millions of les paul owners
