Yeah, your Bloomie looks nice! I prefer the Pearly to its left, though, but that's just me. Seems like as a run, the Pearly tops were more consistent, and the guitars also seemed lighter.

Re: Pearly Gates R9s - so good nobody's selling?

They had a used one at the GC here for 6K a month of so ago. It lasted about a week.

I really think you'd have a tough time getting 11K for a VOS one which is what somebody is selling one for on eBay.

Imagine buying it online. Never seen it in person. Then when you get it, you open it up and this is the first thing you see:

But, side by side, I like them both. And there is enough differences between them to justify having both.

That thing is nice! If you don't play it maybe you should sell it!

Very interesting - You have it strung and set up for a lefty!!!! At first I thought the saddles were just all wrong, then I looked at the strings and saw the lefty thing. Cool

Looking at Gaston's, I also see I'm not the one who nixed the top wrap and flipped the bridge.

Re: Pearly Gates R9s - so good nobody's selling?

To the guys with Pearly's -

What amp's are you playing them through?

I'm using a Fender Deluxe with an original Ibanez TS-808 tube screamer on it. I'm getting some super warm tones - and it sounds great - but its a little to "refined" - the sound it too tailored, not enough crunch. Its very smooth sounding.

I'm looking for some nitty raw classic rock tones.

Anyone using a vintage bluesbreaker or???

Also - please, only if you have the stock pickups - or at least share with what you changed them too - that would be helpful.

I love the stock PG pickups - Not that I have any authority on good sounding Les Pauls - but, the tone, quality and look of my PG is like no other guitar I have seen from Gibson - they really did a great job with the Pearly!

Thanks,

asg

Re: Pearly Gates R9s - so good nobody's selling?

Mine is all stock - wouldn't change a thing on it.

I'm using it with:

* JTM45 quarter stack
* JTM45/100 half stack
* Bogner Ecstasy Classic quarter stack

It sounds fantastic through all of them, but the 45/100 is probably the best match for some ZZ boogie...

Re: Pearly Gates R9s - so good nobody's selling?

playing mine through category 5 tempest and category 5 andrew. channel 1 on andrew is brown sugar tone, channel two on tempest is I need you tonight, just got paid tone. channel one tempest is lagrange tone, channel two andrew is fool for your stocking, blue jean blues(with a strat).

I'm a big ZZtop fan. And they are that good.(the BFG les pauls)

Mine is a signed VOS - traded Billy a 22 watt custom amp for that signature

So you have a UNIQUE VOS signed....nobody has one like yours.
Cool and congrats...it was worth taking all these pictures at the presentation.
Btw where did N8 (signed) ended up?

I'm not into signature guitars at all but I would buy one of these in a heartbeat because of the way Gibson did them. The finish and tops are just cool. Of course it would have to play and sound nice but It doesnt seem like there were many lemons in this series.

There's a Pearly for sale here in Vancouver at the Terminal St Long and McQuade. It's beautiful.

Yep! I'm an old... lefty, I'm so used to play a Les Paul "upside down" like that, after all these years...
I play this "Pearly" mostly through a 15Watts boutique amp or the 1974X pictured here or live; through my "Billy Gibbons rig"... (Mojave Scorpion, Marshall JMP-1 and Marshall Valvestate Pro120/120). Since I saw ZZ Top live two years ago, I had access to the stage for a few minutes...
the Rev's rig influenced me like nothing else!!!!) I'm a proud owner of a Pearly LP and also proud of all this rig!
on a stage I still feel like a kid...

When I was younger... I was playing my 59 burst without the pickguard, http://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/sh...highlight=0910
but now I prefer playing with the pickguard on it!

Of course, I mix & match the heads/cabs all the time.
I had a JCM2000 with two 4x12 cabs but didn't use it enough to justify keeping it. I'm sure I'll end up with another Marshall amp one day. Wouldn't mind a Bluesbreaker...

It's not a seller but a Canadian Gibson retailer. Google Long and McQuade, Terminal Avenue, Vancouver BC. They do not list the exotics on their website. Last time I was in, they had both Jimmy Pages, an aged Jeff Beck LP, a Pearly and i think a Bloomfield.

It's not a vintage BB but I have a Louis Electric 2x12 BB that the Gibbons sounds absolutely retarded through. I can hit an A chord and just let it ring out and be grinning like a fool because it's so f*cking awesome!!

It sounds pretty amazing. I have a firend who is a much better player than I am and when he plays through it, he just shakes his head and gets this huge grin on his face. I just love that old 8x10 cabinet.

VOS BG 063 here. Play it through a Mesa Mark IV with 2 Thiele cabs. This is a great guitar. Could not be more pleased with the whole setup.
