Anyone still have "Roadworn" Guitars from the Summer Jam?

It was a great pleasure to meet a number of forum folks a few years back at the Gibson Summer Jams. During that years festivities, they were selling a lot of items when they were moving the custom shop. I ended up buying 4k worth of stuff....including an electric sign hung in the Custom shop, a LP painting template, a white Custom and an ES-137.

The white custom was one of the greatest sounding guitars I've ever played, but I had to sell it. The ES...is still in my collection and I play it regularly.

Anyone else have any of these???

I think I remember a white custom going through the auction. That auction was LOTS of FUN. There were many guitars that used to be on display at the old shop for visitors to play that got sold. Quit a few one-offs and prototypes too. I got a Junior with a humbucker but ended up selling it. I replaced it with a vintage Junior with a few minor issues. Still wish I had the Roadworn Junior back. I still watch for them to pop up on ebay.

I sold my Johnny A guitar maybe a year and a half ago. That auction, and the jam were a lot of fun. Hopefully the jam will be back on again next year. Rick Gembar told me that they were planning one for this Summer, but then the flood hit, and that was the end of that.

Somehow, I missed the whole auction/roadworn news. The Jr. with the 'bucker is awesome!

Frank if everyone of the celebs that played that Johnny A. while it was on display at the shop would have signed it, it would have been a fantastic record of who's who in the music business. That was a beautiful one, but it was out of my price range.

Re: Anyone still have "Roadworn" Guitars from the Summer Jam?

I picked up two Les Pauls at that Summer Jam ('06). A 2003 R9, which I still have and is my #1 Les Paul these days. Here it is:

This R9 is 8.1 lbs, and brilliant sounding. Great neck on it. I put Marshallheads in it, and did the RS pots and wiring. Love this guitar.

I also picked up a 2005 Studio for my son, Nathan. He has since sold that guitar in a fit of being 20 years old and needing money for other stuff.

I enjoyed meeting you, Bill (and Frank!), and I really loved that white Custom that you bought. I wanted that one too. Sorry you had to let it go.

I got a ton of other stuff from that auction - about 12 tweed Les Paul cases, Gibson clocks, mirrors, artwork, etc. My Passat was really loaded down for the trip back to Virginia Beach!

Love the unique flame pattern on that one Andy- the zebras set it off well. I assume it's outside the Brazilian run of '03? The auction would have been pretty fierce if it did have Braz.! Very cool guitar.

No Braz - it's well above the braz serial numbers. That flame pops out at that angle well, but otherwise it's a pretty "quiet" top. I went after it because it was so light, and I just really connected with it. Won the auction at $ 1,850. Of course there was something like 15% fees over that and tax, but still a bargain for an R9.

It sounded a little thin to me when I got it home, but the Marshallheads and RS wiring transformed it. It's a screamer..

A bargain indeed, when I convert those figures to £/GBP it scares me! I need a vacation to the States soon.
