Can anyone explain this...If during the period of roughly 1958 through 1961, all the guitars 335's lespauls sg's etc. all had paf pickups why then today do the 335's have 57 classics and the les pauls and sg's have burstbuckers..

Re: paf
Wrong section, but the answer is simple. 57 Classics and Burstbuckers are all "forms" of PAF's. PAF's back in the day were not always evenly wound, so the Burstbuckers have that type of brighter tone. 57 Classics are even wound on both coils, so they have that type of midrange tone. You also get wax potting to help lower microphonic feedback with the 57 Classic. Both are considered PAF's.

Re: paf
Both are variations of PAF clones.

Re: paf
What they said AND... they all have the "Patent Applied for" sticker on the bottom.
Thankfully, Gibson is also currently indicating: Classic, Classic+, BB1, BB2 or BB3 with a white sticker added. From various threads it seems that a lot of people like Classics in the ES-3x5 series and BB1/BB2 in the LP series. |
